Howdy Larry..........not specifically a package but more of an idea (might be totally off base with it though so that's why I thought I'd ask here for suggestions.). What got me to thinking along these lines was working through some sample Java client and server code. The server was set up for these examples by using localhost (127.0.0.1 or whatever address one has localhost defined as on their system)........the java client example contained code to log onto the localhost server and do some sends and fetchs. Anyways this got me to thinking that it should be possible then to setup a server and then use a (yet to be determined) comm interface between the server and callers. One thing I didn't think about until after I'd sent my original message though was how callers could implent/interface their net browsers with their comm software. :( Anyways, today I downloaded the OS/2 version of the Apache server and will be trying to get it set up tonight............if you have any suggestions on settiing up a BBS this way I sure would like to hear them. Thanks for the reply Larry.......will ttyl. :-) Well, I know how well OS/2 Warp 3 and 4 ran for me as an internet server for a year, and it was telnetable from my work desk, although I didn't try opening it up via vmodem for the public. I think Arthur Stark down in Texas has this running, and I know Bob Juge does. As far as a BBS ready for the WEB goes, I have seen nothing fully OS/2 that'll do that yet right out of the box. I keep hoping though. Its a damn shame, with all the need and desire for a WEB based BBS system and the internet capabilities OS/2, we can't find any programmer out there writing such code. I think I saw a win based one called winserver, but nothing yet for OS/2. It is only 11+ megs for all three sections. More importantly, tho, is that there are 3 or 4 DLL's that are required and I don't see them in the packages. One is a new TRUETYPE.DLL, a LIBUNI.DLL, UNCONV.DLL, and I think one other. You may have to first get the full load installed before you can successfully use the runtime.exe updates just because of this. It was worth the effort here, as the speed increase is IMPRESSIVE, even over JAVA1.1.1. So far I have installed and set up the OS/2 version of the Apache http server (by using localhost as the IP address) and am now looking at a terminal server program (tserve11.zip) that can be used in conjunction with a frontend mail to start a PPP session for incoming calls. I would imagine, that the easiest way to handle the file up/down loads would be to install a FTP server and a news server to handle the echos (I still have to explore these avenues though to find out what kind of setup woud be optimal).
