What, really, do you expect Carolyn to do? I suspended him twice, back to back, for a total of three weeks. My options at this point are more suspensions or asking his sysop to remove his access to the conference. At least the off-topic tirades have diminished. I'd prefer to deal with the situation privately but that's not as effective as I'd hoped, so I've had to criticize publicly which I'd rather not do for several reasons. The downside to private criticism is that no one realizes that I'm even trying to do anything. I think I mentioned that I was diagnosed with diabetes at the beginning of April. That resulted in two or three weeks of .major. vision problems (reading only, not distance) which have pretty much resolved themselves plus some dental problem$ (at some point, I'm going to lose a front tooth). The combination left me in "who cares" mode for several weeks. Then I developed shingles - again. Those of you who've had them know they HURT! Fortunately that was a relatively short bout. Lighten up, guys. I don't need it from all sides at once. I'm also fed up with the jabs I've had to deal with (if the moderator will let me say this); another of his messages awhile back was so beautifully timed that I was in tears over it. But I figure I'll be accused of prejudice if I react to any of those jabs - or even if I don't. --- RM 1.3 Eval Day 1261 Ever wonder what the other 0.56% of Ivory soap is? * Origin: Inn on The Park (tm) Phoenix, AZ (602)563-0982 (1:114/237) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 124 TRADE WARS Ref: FA100018 Date: 05/16/98 From: CAROLYN STOFFEL Time: 12:23am \/To: JIM PITTMAN (Read 0 times) Subj: How about a "Real Name"? JP> Actually, I think that the ban on aliases is wrong. Most of JP> us play under an alias, and very few people I've played The first bunch of games I played were under my own name. First game where I used an alias was when I was asked by another player to be part of his corporation in a game that would be starting on another BBS. Since then, I've not used the same alias twice locally and used at least two (other) different ones via telnet. I don't even remember what I used on Klock. JP> who Hud is. But the echo rules are real name, so I do real JP> name. Maybe Carolyn will reconsider, I think that using JP> aliases would make the echo more colorful. After all, the That's not my rule, not even sure it isn't a FIDO rule - some nets do have such a rule. (I need to find a BBS that has more extensive FIDO rules, node lists, etc., than I've already found.) The first BBS I used was one run by a member of a group I belonged to so I more or less knew many of the participants. When I decided I was ready to call others, I asked someone who kept a list of local BBSs what to look for. One of his suggestions was that I stick to real-name BBSs. He felt they were "higher quality" than alias BBSs. As you can imagine, I have no quarrel with the "real names" rule. --- RM 1.3 Eval Day 1258 Always count your blessings.
