Seems like setting the -> avoid for the blocked sector manually is still possible. My -> helper halts on "probe destroyed" messages anyways. Yes, the avoids process in the game could use some work. But not the type of work they seem to be doing lately. :( -> How ya' doing, Craig? Lurking??? Doing fine! Was in Las Vegas for the NAB Convention a couple of weeks ago. Shoulda dropped you a note beforehand. Could have had lunch or something. Will be back there again, I'm sure. -c- --- ViaMAIL!/WC4 v1.30 * Origin: Chowdanet! 20gb Amateur Radio BBS (401-331-5587) (1:323/120) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 124 TRADE WARS Ref: F5G00179 Date: 04/29/98 From: CARL ARNETT Time: 02:50am \/To: JIM PITTMAN (Read 0 times) Subj: RE: Thanks JP> Thanks for e-mailing me the 3.08. It's late, but I'll check which files were changed JP> and post the list unless someone else (hint, hint) does it first. JP> Maybe we can get this echo back to discussing strategy and tactics. Was planning on it,,, Got about 6 test games set up with various configurations. Here goes,,,ver 3.08 the so called "Gold" version, changes from previous versions... Will do this in several posts, since I am still testing and discovering for myself. 1. Gonna talk about setup first. On install it acts like all versions xcept it will ask you for you Gold registration, and if you dont have it, all else works except those options. 2. Once you get big bang up,,,here is where you will enable the Gold ersion. Other than that,,,just like all of the old version. 3. Once big bang is through, go to tedit to set up the BBS etc,,,then comes the fun part. 4. Using the Gold editor. I am going to start with the ship editor. In one of my test games I set up a new ship, and simply called it the Combat Shadow. In the ship Editor, there are 5 options you have to pay attention to. In setting up a new ship, let you imagination be your guide. Option 1 sets up the values for the ship, holds, fighters, shields etc. What you have to remember, is you are setting up this ship in the values of n existing one. There has been a new ferrengi ship added to the game called he scorpion. This is what I based my ship on. Option 2 sets up the initial values. Think of this as everything you get on ship when you first log on the game. Option 3 is the settings for the ship. Can it Twarp, can it land on a lanet, does it carry an escape pod, etc, so you should get the idea. Option 4 is the costs, and you can adjust this as it suits you. Option 5 is called Miscellaneous. Here is where you tell the game that the ship will be active, cause if you dont, you just wasted you time. Each of the editors for the Gold version works basically the same. Always remember the you must make sure you set the option 5k as active or you have just wasted a lot of time. I have even introduced into the game the Romulan race, and other style planets. The Romulan race will interact just as the regular aliens, and ferrengi will. Once you have done that, you must go to option H in tedit and set the nternal processing for the aliens, and ferrengi. If you dont, you dont get either ne in the game. Took me a day or two to figure that one out. Well thats all for now, and in the next few days, I will post more on the setup changes, then start touching on what I have discovered in the actual game play itself. Jump in with any and all questions and I will answer them as best as I can. Cause we can all learn together. "Sarge" E-Mail. Carl Arnett@201.gratisnet.com ... ON GUARD BBS, 918-291-2849. The interdictor generator will stop traffic going through at ground level. They have even better uses as L4's. Most people will land on them to try to strip colonists and will get quaser blasted. Even if not destroyed they will be leary of stopping and landing on the next lonesome planet they find.
