As with all shows the answer is "Nobody Knows" (Except for the station purchasing dept) The answer varies from station to station. This is why we can't post a price. I'll try to explain For any given station there are two major numbers. The numbers determine both the advertising rates (if it's a commericial station) and the cost of programming (both commericial and PBS) They are "Market Size" and "Market Share" If you have a station in StickVille (population 1,000 in the station viewing area) and it gets a fifty percent share that's 500 viewrs, (Also, it's likely the only station in the area at that share) Howeever if you have a station in S.E. Michigan (About 2 million) and they only manage a 1% market share (20,000 viewers) Charging a "Flat Price" would not be fair at all as clearly the S.E. Mich station can reach a far greater number of people and thus should pay more (And charge more too) for the show (Advertising if any) Note that comments about commericial stations do not really apply to Dr. Who in most of the US, but the market is still determined the same way. Now... Facts.... When WTVS (PBS Detroit) used to show Dr. Who we would go down and set new pledge records for the show most every pledge drive. We routinely garnered pledges far in excess of the goal. It was a major cash cow (This may be why LionHeart raised it's price) * SLMR 2.1a * Fear of Giants....Fee-fie-fo-bia --- Silver Xpress Mail System 5.03H1 * Origin: The Chessplayer's Forum (1:2410/278) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 270 DR WHO/BRIT SCIF Ref: F3E00000Date: 03/06/98 From: JOE SIEGLER Time: 06:12pm \/To: ARTIMUS BROWN (Read 0 times) Subj: Better Change This Subj. -> JS> I liked their plan for Season 27, which was to have Ace enroll in the -> JS> Timelord Academy. Hello Artimus. 01 Mar 98 02:45, Artimus Brown wrote to Steve Quarrella: SQ>> Let's fire up that chainsaw for... Michael Grade! AB> Who???? Grade was the BBC Controller who stuck it to Colin Baker, who basically pulled out of his ass the idea that Baker's "three years" as the Doctor was long enough for anybody to play the part, and as such, Baker's contract as the Doctor would not be renewed. I said it then and I say it now: I do not blame Baker in the least for laughing at the idea that he come back to film a regeneration scene. Grade was also not the biggest fan of the show, and was responsible for "resting" it. To make an analogy (and hopefully not incite an OS war, which is not my intent), Grade was about as eager to push Doctor Who as IBM is to push OS/2. "Not very eager."
