It really is him. :) All I know offhand is that they're showing "The End" remastered on that ight, plus a new filmed special where they have a trivia contest with the people on the show. I don't remember what else.. I also haven't heard anything about Series 8, except that Blue Midget will be back (albeit redesigned), possible return of Talkie Toaster, the return of the Skutters, and there is supposed to be a return to the "Holly does an ntro before the episode" stuff from the first two series (which, if you didn't now is being added to all the episodes from Series 3-6 as part of the remaster project - they've also totally refilmed *ALL* of Holly's stuff for Series 1-6 using Norman & Hattie redoing their bits). Reprinted with permission. Adrienne Hill, best known to fans as Katarina, the brief companion to the first Doctor, died in late October; according to Gary Russell, she succumbed to cancer. "I remember her as a very amusing lady who was immensley proud of her contribution to Who and genuinely loved being at the con," said Russell. "She might not have made as huge an impact as a lot of companions, but she was a lovely lady and will be missed." Meanwhile, a bit of good news has finally hit American shores: BBC Books has reached an agreement with London Bridge (the long-time distributors of the Virgin book series) to market the Doctor Who novels to the general public. With the January releases of "Kursaal" and "Face of the Enemy" (which will actually see release here in February; a one-month lead time can probably be expected), BBC Books will also make their backstock (dating back from "The Eight Doctors") available at the suggested retail price estimated to be $5.95. 800-TREKKER has announced its plan to make the books available by mail order; meanwhile, Ambrosia will also have the January releases at the new price along with a new 10%-off deal for a subscription service (details of which will be available in January.) It appears that it Canada will also be served by this deal. More confirmed releases on the book front begins with the confirmation of "The Scarlet Empress" by Paul Magrs (an Eighth Doctor & Samantha book) in September 1998 as well as a new Benny Summerfield book confirmation, "The Sword of Forever" by Jim Mortimore, in June. "Short Trips," the March release edited by Stephen Cole featuring an anthology of Doctor Who short stories, will also have a subsequent audio release with stories read by Nicholas Courtney and Sophie Aldred; meanwhile, "Short Trips II" has been confirmed for next October. "Doctor Who: From A To Z" is being written by Gary Gillatt for October release as well; also, a reference manual called "The Television Companion" by David Howe and Stephen James Walker is on the books for November, though this book is said to be geared toward non-fans (i.e. an introduction to the programme). "The Seventh Doctor Handbook" by Howe, Walker and Mark Stammers will also see publication next November. Other book news: the Wirrn ("Ark in Space") and Foamasi ("Leisure Hive") return in "Placebo Effect" by Gary Russell (next July); Jim Mortimore also has an Eighth Doctor/Sam book called "Beltempest" scheduled for late 1998 (presumably December); and Chris Boucher (Dr. Who and Blake's 7 screenwriter) will make his BBC print debut with a Fourth Doctor/Leela book "Last Man Running" for late 1998 as well. In other news, "Nightmare of Eden" has been added to the BBC U.K. video release schedule for January 1999. Audio releases of episodes will also continue thanks to the success of the "Kinda" release read by Peter Davison and the new "Vengeance on Varos" audio book read by Colin Baker. --- QScan/PCB v1.19b / 01-0074 * Origin: The Jupiter Mining Corporation - 972-271-5410 (1:124/9006) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 270 DR WHO/BRIT SCIF Ref: EG^00000Date: 12/30/97 From: AUDREY SEDDON Time: 10:06am \/To: JOE SIEGLER (Read 0 times) Subj: Who News -=> Quoting Joe Siegler to All <=- JS> Adrienne Hill, best known to fans as Katarina, the brief companion to JS> the first Doctor, died in late October; according to Gary Russell, she Such a shame; I never saw the episodes that featured Katarina but I have a good idea about her character.
