JD> Nope, it's a business, and that is the core of Hollywood - if you're JD> entertained by a TV series, that's nice, but it's largely unimportant JD> so long as you patronize the show's sponsors, thus ensuring continued JD> flow of advertising revenue to the production studio. That's the JD> bottom line of Star Trek and all TV, and if you can't step back from JD> your possessive vantage point and see that...well, you need help, and JD> you need it bad. JS> Since you're making the accusation, you should back up your statement. JS> Where was it *NOT* funny? Okay, based on what little I can (or want to) recall of the series: The first episode, with JFK's assassination. For some reason, lots of people thought it was hilarious when the Dwarfers landed in the book store epository and knocked Oswald out of the window (after a brief tug-of-war) and turned im into pizza. Many also thought it was hilarious when Kryten did a double-take on the crates. Can't say I found much funny about that. Later, we had Cat sniffing the dead body. "What can you tell us Cat?" niff... sniff... sniff... "Human!" "Anything else?" Sniff... sniff... sniff... "Male!" Ooh, the hilarity. What else can I recall of the dreadful series? Duct Soup, where they're trapped in the ducts. Nothing funny there. The episode with Ace Rimmer sky-surfing on the back of a crocodile, nothing funny there. Can't remember much else. JS> Your statement above is wrong. If I thought RD7 was crap and unfunny, then I'm going to say so. And, from my perspective, I'm right. JS> P.S. Of course, this is all my opinion. Now, I used to love RD. Most of the episodes (up until the 7th series) were usually quite amusing. But now the series has just lost the plot. They've watered Cat down into nothing but a charicature of his former self. Rimmer's wisecracks are just plain unfunny. Most of Lister's humour is derived from endless curry and flatulence gags. The writers still seem to think it's funny having Kryten say things like, "Ooh, smug mude on!" etc. Where's the innovation, the sparkle of originality that the show once had? Sure, regurgitated jokes can be funny, but I've just tired of that sort of humour. /\/)el --- GEcho 1.00 * Origin: Points mean prizes.
