I guess I'm just being very conservative in that respect. One thing that bugged me was in the begining the master is on trial on Skaro. I don't get why the Daleks, who as I understand it live there, would even ive him one. I would have had it where the master is on Gallifrey, and has to be taken on a planet made for prisioners. Like in Pyramids of Mars. That is when the Master escapes. Still it was a shame not to see Anthony retake the roll. I'm presently in the middle of starting my fan club DWDF. You'll probably get several answers to this, but here goes. The episode that shows the actual origin of the Daleks is called Genesis Of the Daleks, with Tom Baker. Two races on the planet Skaro, the Kaleds and the Thals, had been at war for a thousand years. Radioactive fallout was gradually mutating both races. The Kaleds's chief scientist, named Davros, did some experimenting with mutations to see what the race could eventually become. He designed robotic shells for the mutants, and named them Daleks. These shells were heavily armed but had rather limited movement (a classic joke is that to escape a Dalek you only need to run up a flight of stairs) and their intelligence was limited to how well they were programmed. The Doctor arrives on Skaro under orders from the Time Lords to stop or delay the production of a Dalek army. However he can't bring himself to destroy the mutant incubator room, because he knows what is supposed to happen in the future. At the same time, Davros secretly betrays his people by giving the Thals the code to the Kaled fortress forcefield. The Thals launch a rocket which destroys the Kaled base, and only Davros and a few trusted aides and scientists survive in a heavily shielded bunker. Then Davros makes a show of executing an innocent person as a Thal spy, then sends a troop of completed Daleks to destroy the Thal base as 'retribution'. Some Thals escape, and they plant explosives in the entrance to the bunker. The Doctor finally destroys the incubator room, but not before the production of Daleks is started. He escapes just in time as the Thals blow up the entrance, and everyone is trapped inside. The head Dalek and Davros have a confrontation and Davros learns that the Daleks have acted above their programming by activating the production centre. The Daleks' reasoning was that since they were programmed to survive, they would do anything neccessary to ensure that survival. Davros disagrees and orders his aide to turn the production off, but the Dalek executes him and proceeds to kill the other scientists, which it deems unneccessary to the Daleks' plans. When Davros realizes what is happening, he attempts to turn off the production process himself, but is killed. The Dalek says that is is the destiny of the Daleks to become the supreme power of the universe. Audrey ...
