John Matoian (or however his name is spelled), the president of the Fox Entertainment Group under whom the Doctor Who movie was produced, has resigned and has been replaced by some fellow named Roth (can't rightly recall his first name). This may be a good time to renew a letter-writing campaign to see if the new regime would have any interest in the Doctor's travels. To be bluntly honest, there's not even a remote guarantee that this new fellow would reverse any of his predecessor's decisions, but it never hurts to try. That's really all the information I have on this for now. e <-- Earl Green (earl.green@f1.n3822.z1.fidonet.org) 1:3822/1 Producer/artist/animator, Fox 46/UPN 32, Ft. And I definitely favour the return of Sabalom Glitz! The problem with bringing the Valeyard back is that you really need his background to recognize the menace about him, IMHO. If Fox does continue with the series, they'd have to explain to the newcomers who he is, and why he's not just another version of the Master. I think his return should be foreshadowed, maybe by giving him a cameo where he appears as being utterly sinister. Which seems like a good time to mention my plan for the return of Who: I think the Doctor should be brought back in a mini-series, rather then giving him a show right off. The series would come some time after Enemy Within, meaning we now have two huge gaps where fans can insert their own adventures: one for SylDoc and one for PaulDoc. The series would be shown from a different viewpoint, though, which emphasizes the Doctor's mysterious nature... which, given the popularity of the X-Files and similar shows, is what I think the public wants right now: mystery. The viewpoint I'm thinking of is the one in _Who Killed Kennedy?_: the main character of the mini-series is a reporter trying to find out just who this "Doctor" is. The Doctor would be acting in a fairly sinister way, which would lead to a big mystery for long-time fans, too - just why is the Doctor acting like this? That's the point of the time-gap after Enemy Within: time for something spectacular to happen to him, and the point of the mini-series is to figure out what it was. What does this have to do with the Valeyard? Well, Michael Jayston's voice would be absolutely perfect for the informer on the phone, IMHO. (In "Who Killed Kennedy?" the reporter got leads on the Doctor's whereabouts from a mysterious benefactor... I'll say no more.) If the voice were constantly there, making the audience wonder just who he is (and making it obvious, as time goes on, that he's an enemy of the Doctor who seems to know absolutely *everything* about him) the stage would be set for an actual appearance by the Valeyard to close the mini- series (and set the stage for the series to follow, of course!) He would just stand outside his TARDIS, smile evilly, and then say a few choice words - enough to be sure the viewers won't forget him, and instantly recognize him again when he comes back - and be on the edge of their seats. Now, this is all pretty vague, of course - I have some ideas for an actual *plot* for this mini-series (gasp, shock!) that I'm thinking of fleshing out further if anyone wants to see them. It was promoted primarily with shows that they felt were likely to attract similar audiences - Trek and X-Files. A problem is that the concept of Dr. Who just doesn't come across in a short promo.
