I always though it was. Have a little notebook with notes and such lying next to your computer, ready to refer to if needed. Personally, I don't see what is fun about having a pre-made map which tells you where most everything is. -Elan Morin Tedronai, Owner, -Wizard's Wand Productions --- WWIVGate 2.00c * Origin: * Eagle's Dare * Laurel, MD * (301) 498-1984 (1:109/500) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 124 TRADE WARS Ref: F2N00004 Date: 02/18/98 From: ``KENSHIRO COCHRANE`` Time: 08:11am \/To: JIM PITTMAN (Read 0 times) Subj: Cim removal. +-[ To: Jim Pittman (1:362/923)@8213.Fidonet ]-- - . . . | doesn't come in a package. How can you say that? I'd think it would get boring faster with a helper doing everything for you. Sure, it's just a tool, but the majority of helpers that I've seen are built around the CIM, and without that "useful" chunk of info, are rendered semi-helpless. It would give those of us who get ripped a `C> new arse a chance to tell the assistant/helper players to put their `C> money where their mouth is. `C> How good would ya'll be without a helper? Not near as good. That's nonsense. Helpers are like any other automation -- just save time and aggravation. There's nothing done automatically in the world that can't be done manually -- if you don't mind wasting time. I played a long time before I found out about helpers. Used to keep all my port records in a notebook. Had to go through the book every day to see which ports were scheduled to be at full capacity, and then when logging on I'd have to call up the port records individually through the on-board computer to make sure that nobody had gotten to the good ports before me. The helper does all that automatically, in seconds. But can I do it manually? Obviously, yes. As for haggling, I can haggle manually and do BETTER than the helper. The helper averages about 3.5 points per transaction. I average about 4. If I was evil and needed the xp's, I'd probably haggle manually a lot of the time. Luckily I'm good and the xp's are just for bragging rights. I've NEVER seen a helper get a perfect trade (5 points in + 5 points out); manually I do it often. But is it worth the extra time and hassle? No. It's just not interesting enough. So, like any other boring job in life, you automate it if possible. No different than having a pocket calculator. Does it mean you can't do arithmetic? No, it just means you have more interesting things to do with your time than sitting there doing long division. -- dk (Dusan Kubias) ... The only time it makes sense to capture Ferrengi ships is in an unregistered game where there's no shipyards. The only way to get a decent ship is to capture it from the aliens or the Ferrengi. In a registered game there's no point whatsoever, since you can buy the ideal ship for any purpose. As for making money, never. The fighters you'll waste doing the capturing, plus the turns you'll wasted towing the thing in, will far outweigh whatever you get for it. -- dk (Dusan Kubias) ...
