DB> Supra 56K , Acer 56K or USR 56K DB> Can anyone tell me the best value for your Money.! The Acer is junk. The Supra or USR would be the best modem for the money. (Remember, a cheap modem is cheap because somewhere along the line the use cheaper parts, cut corners, or do other things that make it cheaper to sell.) If you want to get cheap, enjoy the problems (and probably lack of service) that you'll get along with it. In this echo, we'd prefer to see you buy the Supra, however. :-) --gary --- Maximus v3.01 * Origin: bloom county * Supra beta site * (313)582-0888 (1:2410/400) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 267 SUPRA MODEMS Ref: EG300005 Date: 12/01/97 From: WOLFGANG ERNICKE Time: 07:06am \/To: ROBBY DITTMANN (Read 1 times) Subj: Re: modem speaker Robby Dittmann Questioned Wolfgang Ernicke, at 08:27 on 28 Nov 97: RD> That's truly weird, if that's true. I have questions that might be answered here. :-) I received a 28.8 modem from Supra a while back... Something odd happened to that one, so I took it in and they gave me a replacement which was flashed with the latest 33.6K code, etc... That modem has never been working correctly. :-( A lot of times during dial out, it says "B Triggered" and eventually hangs up... Really sucks when it hangs up right after the other end picked up.. and it's a long distance call.. >:-S What is that "B Triggered" business? I also never get 33.6 connections... I DO end up with alot of 7200bps connections, 21.6K connections, etc.... I've tried a few things Patrick Moore has told me to try.. but alas.. still not working... When I have CID turned on, I end up with something like this.... Ring Ring No Answer Connect 21600 ...... It's really weird.. It also likes to hang up on people all the time! :-( Does anybody have any info that might help me out? I'm thinking I just need to talk to my old friends at Supra and see what they can do for a LOCAL SYSOP and FIDONET FEED... I just want a replacement! :-) It looks like Supra doesn't frequent these parts anymore.... Too Bad Diamond is hosing what was a good Oregon Grown Company. :-( Is Tech support ever in here anymore? I've played with plenty of USR modems and SFM 33.6s, and have never had a problem. At this point, ROM code is fairly stable. It's not always easy to find problems in copper wiring. Corrosion, switching equipment, water, etc, all can have an effect on line condition. I'd try re-flashing the dem. Robby --- Maximus 3.01 * Origin: Red Shift BBS, Home of Mamoosoft! ... (770) 979-9467 (1:133/8003)
