Yes, I've looked at the Courier v.everything, and its just too expensive. I was on their web site a month or so ago & it was $249 plus S/H (Sysop special), but someone in here said the price was $199, so maybe the price finally dropped! I hope so, it was too high at $249, when other modems go for 1/2 the price. -> Supra also has a great upgrade program and policy when the hardware -> changes. Question about that, are flash ROM (software) upgrades free or do they nickle & dime you for them??? Thanks. .....Jim --- WILDMAIL!/WC v4.12 * Origin: The College Board (1:2410/146.0) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 267 SUPRA MODEMS Ref: DFJ00005 Date: 11/08/96 From: DAVID HAYS Time: 09:29pm \/To: JANET SULLIVAN (Read 3 times) Subj: Eep! If JS> not, well... ;) I read over the file announcement for the beta's, it looked to me that the -25 beta flash was for the *internal* SupraFaxModem 288 modems. Could that have been the problem? BTW, I had a modem lock up on me during flashing a beta once before. I had to return it to Supra to be fixed. :-( Regards, << Dave - dhays@nwrain.com >> --- GEcho/32 1.20/Pro * Origin: The Focal Point - University Place, WA (206)564-9044 (1:138/236) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 267 SUPRA MODEMS Ref: DFJ00006 Date: 11/09/96 From: DANA HUGGARD Time: 1:46 am \/To: SCOTT KIDDY (Read 3 times) Subj: Re: 56K? Apart from ISDN, (Which requires some other interface hardware other than a conventional modem), a digital 56k line, as is a leased line or what-have-you, (depends on local telco's conventions), has to be "uncoiled". In other words. Our normal lines have coils along the poles every three miles or whatever.. To use one of these lines as 56K the coils have to come out. Depending on the remote modem this could cause a 28.8Kbps connect instead of a 31.2Kbps or 33.6Kbps connection. 2) The +DS command parser would not allow both the BTLZ dictionary size and BTLZ max string lengths to be set in a single command. 3) A timing problem on the SUP1331 that caused some class 2 fax software to fail when receiving a fax has been fixed. 4) A problem with the initialization of the NVRAM was fixed. Some S-registers were not being set to default values when the NVRAM was initialized. 5) When connecting to some modems which have Rockwell ACi datapumps which are not configured for operation at 33.6Kbps a problem could occur that would cause very high bit error rates at the remote modems receiver. This would cause error correction negotiations to fail. The problem does not occur if the remote Rockwell based modem is configured for 33.6Kbps operation, or if the remote modem's firmware includes certain Rockwell datapump fixes. The firmware's connection logic was modified so it can detect if the remote modem will have this problem, if it will the local transmitter is adjusted to prevent it.
