Do you think the reason I get such bad CPS MG> rates and connect rates (Mostly 26400 or 28800 on my end and always MG> 26400 or sometimes 24000 on the other end) and such crappy CPS rates MG> (usually 2950 or so) is because of the old datapump? I should be Well, I can't really say one way or the other. I would imagine that the one I have is "better" than yours since it will do 33.6, but I wouldn't necessarily say that it's the data pump which causes poor performance. Do you have an internal or an external modem? V34 allows for the line to be monitored throughout the call, so if line noise quietens down the speed will shift up. If noise increases, the speed can shift down. With an internal modem you don't see the speed shifts. Sometimes I get 26.4 connects, but within 1-2 minutes it does shift up to 28.8. I don't think you can rely solely on the connect rate to determine how good a connection is. You can adjust an S register so that you always get a 28.8 connect, but what good does it do if your modem shifts down to the slower speed after a couple minutes? All it does is give you the perception that the modem is running faster. MG> connecting at 28800 most of the time and getting CPS rates of MG> 3200-3400.. cya Perhaps you can contact your phone company and get them to check your line out. What would be real nice, and possibly clear some of this up, is some sort of "report" as to what's required for a 28.8 connect. Then you can ask your phone company if certain readings are adequate enough to sustain a 28.8 connect. Do you know what I mean? Anyone from Supra reading this and care to comment? ... I seen a notice posted here, checked Supra's web page out, but there's nothing newer than the 12 version there. There was some sort of comment about a LAPM error being fixed in the 14 version, I was hoping that was the problem I was experiencing. MG> Question, did this problem happen when you started download data? MG> Such as a web page, or an FTP file? Well, that's hard to pinpoint really. I use a DOS program for reading newsgroups offline. It calls out and downloads all the new messages from all the newsgroups which I tell it to. From the time it calls out it's steadily receiving information, and the modem just hangs after a while. I use Windows for web browsing, and some FTP'ing, and it would just cut out when it felt like it :) WZ> I flashed my modem with the 09 version and now everything seems to WZ> be fine.
