--------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 267 SUPRA MODEMS Ref: DBD00010 Date: 07/08/96 From: MONTY GONZALES Time: 06:44pm \/To: SUPRA CORP (Read 4 times) Subj: Crappy flasher! I'm having some serious problems with me SupraFAXmodem 288i Last week I upgraded to the new 33.6k flash firmware. Since then I have been getting a lot of disconnect problems. It seems when ever I'm doing any significant downloads (like downloading pages from a web site) my computer hangs for a moment, then disconnects. Also, on a smaller note, I'm NOT getting any better connect rates than I was the older firmware. All I get a 26400 connects, and this is WITH other supraFAXmodemes using the new 33.6k flash. My init string is some what irrelevant, since when using Win95's dial p, it seems to use an init I can't change, or even LOOK at. However I seem to e able to "add" more settings if I wanted to. I assume it's using AT&F2, as I also use this with my terminal software. While using DOS terminal software, the problem is also present. When downloading via Zmodem, things go along fine, then errors creep up. Then oon the transfer stops, and I loose carrier. But after re-connecting for like the 3rd or 4th time, and starting the downloads over again, the problem seems to disappear.. but it's not exactly stable. Anyone have any ideas that may resolve this problem? /\\onty monty@digicity.net --- RM 1.3 Eval Day 29 RoboMail -- Version 1.3 -- Available now! --- BMW Motorrad /2 * Origin: *Beemer Board* Escalon, CA. 209.983.0625 Motorcycles R US! You might check if your ISP has this older code installed or newer, if there is one available. The situation is akin to VFC andd V34 of a few years back. VFC was the first 28.8 and it came out before V.34 which is now the standard. I'm not sure if USR's choice was the best, but it can be a problem now. I would check into that. The D channel can also be used for frame relay though...but of course that costs more and you have to have a unit on the far end that has the capability.
