I toook a lot of those supposed "goodies" off this computer after the install, especially that annoying fastfind. Yeah, in the meantime, things are stable again here, thanks to you, and I am not venturing into any MS "solutions" which might cause me more heart ache then it is worth. Sell it once is not enough, they have to sell it again. ================== On a different note, maybe you have a good idea here too: Using the Adaptec Easy CD writer, it gives you in its sub-program "Spin Doctor" the choice of 'source' and 'destination'. I am in the process of moving my LP's to CD, while they are still playable... So, intially I chose as souce 'LP' and as destination "files on hard drive" , so as to write the LP to the hard drive. If that works fine, and the result is good, I change the source to "files from hard drive" and the destination to "CDwriter" At least, that's the way it should work. BUT, once the source of LP has been selected just once, trying to change the source to something else, results in a report of "CODEC Device Driver not loaded", and the computer locks up. Can you comment on that one? Is a CODEC driver (whatever it is) part of win95, or is it part of a sound card driver ? Do I need an upgraded sound card? (currently S3 TRIO64, nothing special, with the very latest drivers) PLease advise! There is a jumper selection on the card to auto detect 8 and 16 bit slots. if you moved the card recently and that jumper is not set to auto detect then it will default to 8 bit. Also you can check your screen at boot up in the upper corner...you should see a vid mode listing ...it is very fast and on some systems if you blink you will miss it. ...if this is not the problem I think you might have marginal memory on the vid card itself....hardware does fail sometimes, you know. .....Ken ;)! --- POW 1.2 On Trial 235 Days It's the commies behind all this stuff!! * Origin: -=[ Wheel Werks BBS ]=- http://www.wheelwerks.org (1:202/414) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 263 WINDOWS '95 Ref: F5P00005 Date: 05/16/98 From: BAKR TAMORY Time: 08:58pm \/To: JEFF FOY (Read 6 times) Subj: Moving from "a" to "b" JF>Person has Win95 (the "a" version) up, well-fed, and running as well as >Win95 does.
