It was an genuine honest mistake on my part Barry, there is a version of beta code for available for the Optima External Business Modem. Note that (if you haven't already) there is both the code to upgrade and the code to revert to if need be; BIZ56KUP.EXE and BIZ56KY.EXE respectively, not to mention the all the "for North America..." and the "PC Files are for Win95 or WinNT 4.0 only" disclaimers...I had to carry my Accura back to my W95 machine to flash it back to the .519 release code. Dos/Win3.x or OS/2 won't run the flash rom *.EXE code. Did you find the beta page? If not, it's at: http://www.hayes.com/56k/beta/index.htm Sorry if I tossed you a monkey wrench, there are enough of those floating around. Later... This time. ;-)) The first time, Ithere was NO list of what operating systems it used. I downloaded both the upgrade and the downgrade. Of course, when I tried to run the upgrade, it wqwouldn't work, since it is a Win95 app and OS/2 will not run Win95 apps. So I took my modem and the upgrade diskettes over to a friend's house and did the upgrade there. Hayes could learn from thi practice of USR. The web site specifically gives notice that all PC flash fom codes are w95/NT 4.0 only. No Dos, no Win3.x, no OS/2. The one Accura beta code for the Macintosh is in Macintosh SEA.HQX. file format. I have a Courier x2 on my w95 machine and also a Courier x2 on my Mac 7200/90 PowerPC. I'll atach the latest 56K beta web page: Hayes 56K Beta Firmware Updated: 9-Dec-97 Hayes 56K Wide Beta ------------------------------------------------------------------ For customers outside North America: Due to variation of country approval requirements, the firmware posted here may not apply or work correctly with the modem purchased in your country. Please DO NOT apply this firmware to your modem without consulting your the local Hayes service distributor or technical support. Upgrade or replacement of your Hayes modem in some countries outside North America may require extra charge due to import duties or VAT levied. The actual cost may vary according to the local government policy and industry practice. Consult your local Hayes distributor for detail. ------------------------------------------------------------------ We are pleased to offer you this opportunity to use the beta version firmware for our 56K modems. This beta code allows your K56Flex Hayes client modem to be interoperable with all Rockwell-based and Lucent-based K56Flex servers, providing that the servers are also running code that complies with the K56Flex 1.1 specification. While this code has passed through initial Alpha testing and is believed to be stable, you may experience problems when using it. This version of the firmware is un-supported so if you have any problems using this revision, you will need to flash your unit to the previous version as we will not be able to assist you while you are running beta code. When the firmware is officially released, the final version will be posted both here and on the Hayes FTP site. To determine if your modem can run this beta version of the firmware, you will first need to determine what version of the firmware you are using now. To do this, you will need to send the command ATi3 to your modem using a terminal program. You can use any version of Smartcom for this by setting the program to Direct Connect mode, then typing ATi3 and pressing enter. The result from the modem will be your firmware revision. You can also use Terminal or HyperTerminal to do this or any other communications program that will allow you to send commands directly to the modem. If your modem reports: V0.519DHY-K56_DLP(Internal) or V0.519DHY-K56_DLS(External) then your modem will accept this beta code. If you have versions 0.110 or 0.520, you have the option of setting up an Return Merchandise Autorization to exchange your modem for a unit that can run the newer firmware. For North American Units Only ATTENTION ACCURA 56K Internal Speakerphone Owners! The following flash files are for ACCURA 56K data/fax and ACCURA 56K External data/fax/voice models only. You will damage your modem if you apply the following flashcode to an internal voice model. The flash upgrade for the ACCURA 56K Internal Speakerphone model will be posted on this page as soon as it is available.
