Thanks in anticipation. First the good news: In the US you can usually disable call waiting by entering *70, before your number to be dialed, like so: ATDT*70,555-1212. Now the bad news: This has nothing to do with your modem, whether or not it is Hayes compatable or not. It is solely an instruction to the phone company, and your individual phone company may use a different command to disable call waiting, or have no command at all (mine doesn't) for doing so. I have even heard vicious rumors that some phone companies charge for each time the command is issued. If I understand your origin line, you are in Australia, so you will have more likely than not, another set of phone company rules than here in the US. Here it is again: * Area : HAYES (HAYES) * From : Dave Beach, 1:163/222 (28 Aug 96 17:39) * To : Hayes Support * Subj : Optima problems I own an Optima 28.8 V.FC/V.34 purchased two and a half years ago on the sysop program. Some time ago, I capped my modem at 26.4 with S37=34 to solve a problem I was having with a couple of downlinks with older, flakey Zoom V.FC modems. After that, my problems seemed to be mainly limited to occasional 300 bps connects with the Zooms (and only the Zooms, three or four times a week). They've recently upgraded, and I took the cap off the Hayes. I'm now having the same 300 bps problems with the same frequency with the Zooms. I'm also having a hell of a time with my uplink and a couple of downlinks, all of whom run USR Courier V.everythings. Bink reports numerous retransmits, and the vast majority of the time the line is dropped. When a connect manages to hold for the entire session, I get drastically reduced throughput (~2300 cps), even on 26.4 connects that used (before I took the choke off) to be fine (~3000 cps or so). Help! FYI, ATI7 returns an ERROR (!?). ATI0 returns 28800, ATI2 returns OK. My init string is ATZ1, with NVRAM settings as follow: B1 B16 B30 B41 B60 B70 B75 B80 E1 L2 M0 N1 P Q0 V1 W1 X4 Y0 &A0 &C1 &D2 &G0 &K3 &Q5 &R0 &S0 &T5 &U0 &X0 &Y1 S00:000 S02:043 S03:013 S04:010 S05:008 S06:002 S07:050 S08:002 S09:006 S10:014 S11:095 S12:050 S25:005 S26:001 S36:007 S37:015 S38:020 S46:002 S48:007 S49:064 S50:192 S108:003 S109:4095 S110:002 I'm surprised to be having so many problems, especially given the value of S108. One of my downlinks with a Courier tells me that the nifty link stats his modem gives him describes lots of "blers". Perhaps more on this if he forwards me his stats as I've asked. They can talk to each other alright, but my conclusion is that the earlier V.34 firmware versions had problems talking to some earlier V.34 firmware versions in other models of modems. The solution is to try to have up-to-date firmware in both the Optima's and the Motorolas.
