GUILLOT Time: 12:42pm \/To: ALL (Read 2 times) Subj: BGFAX 1.60 released BGFAX 1.60 has finally been released! Quick description: BGFAX is a program designed to let BBS operators receive faxes on the same phone line they use for data calls and FidoNet calls. No special hardware is needed. No special services from the phone company. BGFAX uses the "adaptive answering" feature that is already present in almost every faxmodem. All it takes is a few changes to your initialization strings and batch files, and then you can take faxes. BGFAX is also a powerful tool for sending faxes. Everything can be done from the command line, and status will be reported both on screen, by errorlevel, and with detailed log files. BGFAX offers features not found in many fax programs, such as "start sending from page 4", etc. There have been more than 75 changes, bug fixes, new features, etc. since version 1.55. Check the "BGFAX" echo or my web site for more information. BGFAX comes with both DOS and OS/2 executables. BGFAX works with Class 1, Class 2, and Class 2.0 fax modems. The new version can be obtained by FidoNet FREQ of magic name "BGFAX" from 1:106/400. It can also be obtained from http://www.blkbox.com/~bgfax/ Or, the good-old-fashioned BBS download from +1 713 893 9124 or 713 507 9620. Regards, B.J. I have a Hayes modem a 2400 one that was new when I -> got it for my IBM XT. It calls out but will not finish the hand -> shaking to let one call out. I guess no one uses a Slow Hayes modem -> any more. I do have a 1200 that works Great. You could try using AT&F&W which would reset it to factory default setting, but if that doesn't work I can't really help you that much(I'm no Bill Gates). 14400's come pretty cheap now a days, Some even sell for under 45 dollars. --- GOMail v2.0 [DEMO] 09-13-37 * Origin: CAXIUS BBS - San Leandro, CA [510-895-6961] (1:215/42) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 259 HAYES MODEMS Ref: DAW00001 Date: 06/26/96 From: JEFF BRIELMAIER Time: 08:35pm \/To: GLEN CROTTY (Read 2 times) Subj: dumb mode GC>Has anyone heard of dumb mode? It will dial ok SB> but when it connects all I get is ascii characters, until I exit and SB> restart. SB> I don't know why. This is bizarre. With the modem I use, dumb mode is active for the first 20 seconds after modem power-up, and then it kicks into dumb mode if the same is active. For some reason, though, yours sounds like a software problem, which is sort of hard to imagine if you are using Procomm. This is a different story though. My suggestion: power your modem down and up (or if it's internal, well...you have to do a cold-reboot), get into your terminal (internal: go straight to the prompt, assuming you're using an 80x86 system with Dos), and type AT&F (int: type "echo at&f > com#" at the prompt, where # is the comport your modem is on). If the problem continues, throw your terminal program off of a tall building. =) SB> 210 Stephen Brandt - Conway, Arkansas - KD6TZF 012 Well, 73 de KE6ISF! Also make sure the compression is turned on is this is shut off this may cause the problem you are describing. If none of the above works send me a msg and maybe we can figure out what is going on.
