Tell me any bad experiences..aside from high cost. I've heard nothing but great things about the v.everthing. My next modem will be a v.everything. If you think about it, a Sportster X2 was right around $219 last time I looked at one and the v.everything was going for $289. Not that much more money for a supposedly better modem. USR is this way with x2; with my 3 Couriers I d/l'ed the flashrom code, ran it in, (it is an executable file), and then had to call an 800# with the modem to get it 'activated.' And, yeah, the online manual sucks. RG>> If I had it to do over again, I'd buy an external 3Com/USR >> Sportster and have x2 now -- and a manual I could browse through. > I don't I would. As long as they'll talk to each other, I really couldn't care if the modem was Rockwell or TI or Motorola...but my ISP currently supports x2 and that's what I surf with. Later... Make sure your modem and yo -> comm program are both configured for software (RTS/CTS) flow control. Ok, but what if you know for certain that both the comm program and the modem are both configured to use the software flow control? Using Win95, are the default buffer settings the best or should these be changed and what about the fossil settings on a bbs, what are the optimum settings to be best for the most types of modems? * OLX 1.53 * It's not a bug, it's a feature. --- TriToss (tm) Professional 1.0 - #108 * Origin: The Hall of Fame * Canton, OH * (330) 456-8856 * (1:2216/1.0) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 105 HIGH SPEED MODEM Ref: EBU00002Date: 07/23/97 From: DAVID BOWERMAN Time: 11:06pm \/To: BUD JAMISON (Read 5 times) Subj: internal modem instal BUD JAMISON wrote in a message to MIKE ROSS: -> You could then use either COM2 or COM4 as you please though obviously -> not both at the same time. Neither will matter in the near future when the ITU-T releases it's recommendation. As for the situation in Hong Kong, you should check with the local ISPs as to which protocol if either they will be supporting. BTW, you might want to suggest to the sysop of the Blind Fly Board that he should setup his software to insert the Fidonet zone number instead of a hknet.org zone number in his origin line. EM> How do you set hardware (CTS/RTS) on the Modem only?. EM> Give an example of yours. Flow control in the modem is set by the use of a modem command, usually as part of the init. Configuring the comm program for a particular type of flow control _does not_ change the modem configuration - they're separate things. The commands vary by modem, but Rockwell chip modems generally use &K3 to enable hardware flow control. Rick --- MsgedSQ 3.30 * Origin: The Warlock's Cave (1:163/215.39)
