I activated the DIETING echo, and I should start receiving messages in it on Wed., April 1. If you will also activate the DIETING echo on your end, then we should be all set for more conversation. BTW, I find that this topic, and especially what you said in the last four or five messages is a vital challenge for me. I hope that you understand just how bang on target your words have been? I will need to diet, definitely, but I will also need to spend time at my fitness routines and walking longer distances each day. A little more distance each day, and swimming lengths in a public swimming pool every Saturday and Sunday. This option will be important and vital to my fitness. I must try daily to get that little bit of added performance that will propel me to my weight loss targets, and build muscle. Please write back soon. In DIETING echo. Bye. I'm hoping to knock ten more pounds off - I could use it. The key is getting started. Walk to the store, instead of driving. If you have a car, ration yourself to a certain amount of gas per week, or month, and make sure you walk/bike the rest. Start slow and easy. Find a friend if you can to accompany you. If you're like me and you're into sports to some extent, then maybe take along a walkman and rather than watching some game, listen to a period/half/quarter/couple innings on the radio while walking somewhere. Once you feel like your cardio is improving, grab a badminton racquet, and go into some local rec center's drop-in/everybody welcome session for low-end/begginner types once a month or so. There was a recent article in the Toronto Sun by Dr. Gifford-Jones titled: Booze Away your nausea which had a suggestion or two that *MAY* be very helpful to some of our users online.....I won't plagarise the article, but here are some suggestions according to Dr. Gifford-Jones regarding the feeling of nausea: Dr. Paul Langevin, assistant professor of anastesiology at the U.of Florida reported to the American Society of Anestesiologists that one of his patients felt nauseated and asked for alchohol. The nurse initially believed he was asking for an alchoholic drink, and she told him,"We don't serve alchoholic drinks in this hospital." The patient explained he wasn't looking for a drink, but wanted to just sniff the contents of the bottle. This nurse was enterprising, and dipped a cotton swab in Isopropyl alchohol (rubbing alchohol),and the patient took a few deep breaths of the swab, and his nausea quickly left. She was still skeptical, and she explained what happened to some of the octors in the ward, who were as skeptical as she was....They went to work and tried a test, where they tested 30 post-operative patients. They tried 2 test groups: one with cotton balls soaked in salt and water solution, the other with the rubbing alchohol. The result?: The group with the salt swabs had no result, the ones with the alchohol had almost complete and immediate relief of nausea.A larger study is planned to determine the validity of the early research into the findings. Note: Personally,I neither endorse or deny the results as quoted from the March 26/98 article, nor does Ability Online. The results as quoted here are early findings and haven't been proven scientifically in a *LARGE* study.....All I can suggest to post-operative/chemotherapy/drug therapy patients is that you try it for yourself when nausea hits due to treatment. If it works:Fantastic! If not, what the heck, nothing ventured, nothing gained. If we as pals can't help,we won't hinder.Passing it on in simple terms, and making it clear this *MAY NOT* work for everyone. Your pal,Toadie ... So simple a child could do it. Today: I went for a walk to get my Canada Post - snail mail. For 34 minutes counting from time leaving until I returned home to give my Aunt Pat her mail. Then, I had a bowl of oatmeal. And a cup of coffee. And I set out for another walk. This time, I went south from my Aunt Pat's house around the block, which took me 45 minutes, until I returned to Pat's house. Then, I returned home to my office area, where my computers are. I use two INTEL 486 systems. It is 5:45 p.m. e.s.t. on Sunday, March 29th. I returned home at 2:16 p.m., then I went over next door to visit with my Dad. And, then I went for a visit with my Dad's two sisters, Patricia, and Myna. I ate two cold hotdogs which were uneaten at last night's supper. I am spending a lot more time doing online e-mail, echo mail, and updating two html home pages. One is for my Dad. And the other one is for me. Check these whenever you want to: http://www.iaw.on.ca/~ptokar/ - for my Dad. http://www.iaw.on.ca/~petert/ - for me. I will be updating and changing these two www home pages approximately once or twice a week. I will accept any comments that you may decide to tell me concerning either my page, or my Dad's page. One was a list of Web Page addresses and USENET addresses about cycling from the INTERNET RESEARCH DIRECTORY, which I picked up new for 1998 at the BUSINESS DEPOT, in Welland, Ontario, at SEAWAY MALL. You may remember that many years ago, when Johnny Carson was still hosting The Tonight Show, that he mentioned in his monologue that men were filmed in a SEAWAY MALL, WELLAND, ONTARIO, upper washroom, having sex with one another. The local Police department had, I suppose, placed cameras in such a way as to catch these men "in the act," more-or-less. I still meet people today who remember Welland's moment of glory. But, really, that was a long time ago. Businesses in the Niagara Peninsula are now facing tight budgets, and business can be very much in a slump after the passing of Winter into early Spring. I wish to thank you very sincerely for your words to me in this thread - on weight loss / aerobic exercise. And concerning your own long distance cycling training program, I bid you many strong weeks during this Spring and Summer. May the wind always be at your back... I bid you adieu. All the best.
