I don't know how old you are, but other symptoms are, and they differ from person to person, easily fatigued, sudden weight gain (water weight), elevated blood pressure, sudden onset of shortness of breath at night, dry cough, bronchial wheezing, chest pain, lack of urine output except at night, swollen ankles, a weight gain of more than two pounds in a day or five pounds in a week (assuming you weighed yourself at the same time every day using the same scale with the same amount of clothes on), etc. (All this, by the bye, from my wife who is an RN with cardiac specialty.)) Again, if you have any of these symptoms, I would strongly encourage you to see a professional. If I'm over-reacting, I'll gladly plead guilty. I thought I had mentioned that I'm in the middle of training/conditioning for an off-road race in late June. Consequently, I may at times put out lots of energy (ie: today, I piled on a metric century, 100k of riding) and thus, lots of sweat. That would easily account for some of the fluctuations. I was 186 when I started this morning, 184 this evening after dinner. I suspect the two pounds might well be from various meals moving through the system, water loss, and so on. Otherwise, my blood pressure is fantabulous (I check it now and then on those do-it-yerself jobbies in pharmacies and so on) and my resting heart rate is between 47 and 62. Lots of people are sensitive and/or outright allergic to this stuff. I think it does cause some water retention, as it is a sodium product. I'm not an expert on this, but if you look at the name you would figure out two things: One, it has sodium in it, and two, it has some sort of starch in it as well (glutimate, from gluten, a starch found in wheat flour). It could be the starch that people are sensitive to (my mother, for instance, is allergic to wheat flour). MSG is also used in a lot of Chinese restaurants. When you go there, ask them if they use MSG in their cooking, and if they do, ask specifically to not have it included in the food (it's added during the cooking itself--I used to work in such an establishment and had to tote big ol' sacks of the stuff). Usually, people get gassy and queasy after eating MSG though, but I'm sure there's just as many weird reactions too. ... NC> What kind of country is Australia anyway? If you combine the casualness of the Canadians, the zaniness of the British with the esaygoing of the irish, you'll have some idea. Mind you the country is as big as the US & is unevenly divided into 7 states, so Texas's about the size of our second smallest state. NC> I am having a hard time getting in. Have you been given the option to take out private insurance? {Which is nothing like what I've heard about the US system so don't have a heart attack.} The best way to handle Oz Public servents is to appeal, appeal ,appeal. My husband is on a pension 'cause when we protested a reject we were told "because you know what your rights are" she'd start the appeal process. Mind you I think it might be prudent to see if what ever alternative medicine you're using is available here. Some are covered under the Medicare system & other's are not. I don't think the health insurances have acknowledged anything more radical than chiropratics. I'm aware Oz authorties can health restrictions on entry (mother_inlaw had to get her chest X-rayed every year for 15 years 'cause she had TB as a kid) the theory is not to place a burden on the health system. We have a _genuine_ free health system, & it's nothing like what I see in the US's news & TV shows. There's none of this "don't have the right health insurance - go to another hospital" in Australia. There are private hositals, but all emergencies go the the public hospitals & patients are either placed in private rooms there or are transfered when arrangements can be made - sometimes there's a several hour wait. There's no major health insurance fraud, although the current government may have made some changes that may open such loopholes. Ofcourse goernment cutbacks makes it's healther to live in one of the big cities raher in the rural sector... NC> I wanted to move there, but I think I won't. Must be a lot like NC> England. My doctor alluded to this condition back in November when I went to see her and she said that all of my thyroid levels were in the "normal" range. She then did not even suggest any tests to properly diagnose me. Via the Internet, I found out about a PCOS study being held at Women's College Hospital here in Toronto and have just been accepted for it. I guess that they think I have it. Please, I would really like to talk to some Cysters who have been through this; even any men who have had experience with the women in their lives who have had it are welcome to comment. I am especially interested in what alternative treatments there are for it. All my doctor did was give me Provera (medroxyprogesterone) to treat the symptoms, and I am staunchly refusing this treatment anymore due to the side effects. Thanks! P.S. I'm taking a steroid to help with an old problem and its destroyed my circadian cycle. Hopefully, this cup of chamomile tea might help. When you peel the layers off the onion of the problem, the core cause of my grief is that at a young age, when doctors thought tonsils and adenoids served no useful purpose, I had them removed and I've been condemned to sinus and ear problems since. The cycle is that I get a sinus infection, the post-nasal drip runs across the eustachian tubes which are hypersensitive. They swell shut resulting in a dramatic hearing loss and resultant infection. Usually, I have to go on antibiotics and a few days of steroids which works, but this cycle s getting boring as well as making me a regular grump. Is there anybody else out there who has wrestled with the same problem and found some relief via alternative medicine? Any advice will be appreciated and seriously considered.
