The hospital has a pharmacy department somewhere which might give you some help in getting rid of whatever you were given during the surgery, or, you could go to your own pharmacist and try to get them to make a couple of phone calls, one to the hospital pharmacy, and the other to the anesthesiologist who put you asleep and kept you there while they worked on you. The surgeon would not know all of the drugs that were used for that purpose and some of them may be causing your problems. I'd advise going to a pharmacist now and skipping the steps in between. Whatever is giving you this problem needs to be identified fast. I went in for surgury in 1992, and found that I was relatively alert after the process was done. I was thinking of a local (which would have been a spinal) just for that purpose, but the anasthetic was on the whole much less potent than I'd remembered from my early youth. Going to the bathroom five hours after the procedure was a bit tough - but a day later, I was spiffy. --- Maximus/2 3.01 * Origin: Fox n' Dragon Inn BBS (472-8313, Victoria, BC) (1:340/44) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 257 ALTERN. Not sure of the spelling, but apparently there's a material out there called "Bromylene" (or similar phonetics) that is a natural anti-inflammatory compound. I'd like to know more about it. My chiropractor suggested it for some knee problems I've been having. If anyone else suggested it, I'd probably smile sweetly and say "no." However, my Chiropractor happens to be an incredible benefit to the medical profession, so I figure I'd get some info and prepare to take the plunge. --- Maximus/2 3.01 * Origin: Fox n' Dragon Inn BBS (472-8313, Victoria, BC) (1:340/44) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 257 ALTERN. Butting in here again, I put a pepper based cream on one knee which usually REDUCES pain for most folks. For me, it has resulted in pain in that knee I never had before in my life! I am allergic to peppers. I didn't believe that something like that could make such a difference on the OUTSIDE of me! You could be having an extended reaction to some substance you don't even know about that isn't supposed to do this sort of thing. I would request the records of your meds from the hospital pharmacy as well as anything you were given in surgery, then get thee to a pharmacist you can trust and ask how to begin to identify anything that could be giving you some of the problems. DS> DId you have any problems with digestion after? Hello Dia, In March 1997, I was in the day surgery ward and I was having a cystoscopy and dilatation. I was given an anesthetic. It worked very well. I don't know what kind of drug was used, but I breathed deep breaths and counted back from 10, 9, 8, 7, 6... and I was out cold. It was one of those stories of a successful medical surgical happening. I did not have any problems with memory as you stated that you are having. I am taking "saw palmetto" and I started taking it after reading about it in this echo. I was sent a packet of reports and brochures from the makers of a TENS product, which is supposed to solve problems with incontinence for men and women. I had visited their website and ordered their product information. My main problem is that I get up to urinate at night, and I just go a trickle. I do this about once each hour at night. Please, write back Dia... It gets dark and lonely in the caverns of darkness. Peter D. Tokar petert@iaw.on.ca Zephyr Online - 1-905-892-3079 Fidonet (1:247/110) Fenwick, Ontario, Canada ... My kneecap has ceased tracking normally, and is thus causing undue friction with the femur - apparently (but not certainly) caused by inbalanced quad muscles.
