MEDICINE Ref: EEU00001Date: 10/24/97 From: HARRIET LEVY Time: 08:17am \/To: ALL (Read 1 times) Subj: Alternative Medicine Hi Guys, So let's talk about alternative medicine. By alternative medicine, I'm assuming, (it's been a while since I've posted here) that we mean any and all types of non-traditional, or non-mainstream healing arts. That said, let me introduce myself, for those who don't remember me. I'm a Massage Therapist, licensed in New York State; and a Reiki Master. 've been practicing and teaching Reiki for about 5 years now. I also do a umber of other energetic healing techniques, mostly "goddess-taught", which means that I've not had formal training in a lot of stuff that I somehow know how to do. Just to clear up any future confusion, I'm also a Priestess and a Witch, and firmly believe all energetic healing work comes from the Goddess. So, enough of all that and on to what I want to talk about. I have a client, working with her is bringing up all kinds of stuff for me. She's 19 years old, has a 2 year old child. Tested HIV+ about 6 months ago. Since then she's been in an experimental program, participating in different clinical trial. She has gone from symptomatic AIDS, to non-symptomatic, a rise in T-Cells to over 500. There's just one little thing wrong. She was just diagnosed with Lymphoma. There's a further complication. She's now 4 months pregnant. So here we are. I offered to work with her, daily, practicing Reiki the way it was practiced in Japan before World War II. Which means daily sessions for as long as it takes. I beleive that we can correct the imbalances that have caused her lymphoma. The only thing that I'm having trouble with is that she is so endearing, I haven't been able to stop myself from loving her, dearly. My western trained mind tells me that I can't become emotionally connected to my lients/ patients, and retain professional detachment. What I've started wondering about is maybe that's what's wrong with Western Medicine. That there's so much professional detachment, that there's no room left for the healing power of love. I guess what the question comes down to is, am I a Health Care Professional, which is what my license says, or am I a Healer? I certainly prefer the latter, but as I said, I'm having trouble reconciling that with my raining". Any thoughts??? Harriet ... This country has long been known for acceppted use of drugs, and in fact encourages drug use. But when those in power decide a drug is bad, unsafe or they just do not like it, it then becomes a controlled substance. My main point is that those who are in 'power' elected or otherwise are not automatically right nor wrong. We as "free' people are being slowly legislated out of our 'freedoms'. Forced to wear seatbelts. Forced to wear helmets. forced to not smoke ciggarrettes, which as of YET are not illegal. Soon, with the aids epidemic, we will be forced to wear condoms and only engage in unprotected sex when and if the government decides we are "safe' and they need another warm body.Oh yes, lets not forget forced to have car insurance. Yes, we insure our cars by force, but not our health. Be poor with no insurance and see what kind of care you recieve! Freedom is not nor never was free. One has to fight for freedom. Try to find the book Little Black Sambo! Can you say literature reppression? It offends some, so it is now banned. How far to the next step of "we do not like the color red{or choose your own} therefore the color is now illegal. Sure that comparison is silly, the book offends people of color, or Africans, or Nigerians or Blacks or whatever they decide this year it is ok to be called. Try just calling them people. Silly comparison? perhaps. Or not. At this point, we still have the freedom to decide for ourselves. How much longer will that last? Oh, I heard that some of Charles Dickens books may be banned, for the "n" word. Can you say Fahrenheit 451? I thought you could. Have a pleasant day, and watch out, the next 'freedom' attacked and banned may be on of your own beliefs! P.S. Anyone know of a natural unbanned method of headache relief?
