I saw no mention of the "$" anywhere in GR>JH>the docs, so I have tried it but have gotten the same results. I have o GR>JH>problem disregarding the fact that the call waiting screen shows port 1 GR>JH>but unfortunately the problem still exists. There is bleed through GR>JH>between every node that says "port 1" on the call waiting screen and GR>JH>operation very quickly become unreliable. GR>jim GR> i have no explanation at this point...however i do know that herb GR>guenther is running 4 nodes using this technique and he's quite GR>happy with the performance...i think he's running a 486 with GR>desqview. GR>after looking back in my docs i agree with you that the baseaddr is GR>nowhere to be found...never mind the $ GR>Greg I wasn't aware of this. I assumed that he was using COM1-COM4. I also believe he is running 4 internal modems. I believe downloads worked when I used two internal modems, but since I installed the multiport board my problems started. Herb if you read this please do post your upload all your startup files autoexec.bat, and config.sys to Greg's board and let us know so we can download it. Another problem I've experienced since going to 4 nodes - QUERY MAIL now only works on node 1! It worked on nodes 1 and 2 when I only ran 2 internal modems, now it only works on node1. I have the QUERY MAIL statements in ALL my startup files, go figure. Regarding the other request I had about putting customized files or "personalized" bulletins in a caller's QWK packet, Bill Mitchell wrote a great little program called QWKBULL that I execute in first.bat. It works great, but only in nodes 1 and 2, even though I have it setup right for all 4 nodes! I only mention these things because they all might be related. I would like to request that you insert a provision for something like first.bat to run even if a caller uses the !logon though. As you know, first.bat does not execute if a caller uses !logon. Thus to take advantage of this great feature a caller must logon without the !logon option. I carry all kinds of news features that come in daily and a caller can set up a profile of which of these they want, and QWKBULL puts each one that they want into their qwk packet as BLT-X.BBS. I think it's dandy and I recommend other Ry sysops contact Bill about this Regards, Jim --- SLMR 2.1a Smith & Wesson, the ULTIMATE in feminine protection! --- RyPacker v2.5 * Origin: AirPower Home of the AIRGUN Echo 610-259-2193 (1:273/408) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 256 RYBBS Ref: CET00000 Date: 10/22/95 From: AL LAWRENCE Time: 12:43am \/To: ALL (Read 3 times) Subj: InterBBS Via EMAIL >****************************************************************< >** INTERBBS VIA INTERNET EMAIL **< >** **< >** SUNRISE DOOR SOFTWARE **< >****************************************************************< SUNRISE DOOR SOFTWARE adds a new dimension to its' popular International InterBBS Exchange competition by adding InterNet EMAIL as another means of transferring files. Hello Bill, Well I finally got file transfers to work on more than one node. I think it may be that only one node can be on a multi-port board. The board is a 4 port board with port 4 disabled. I have the first 3 ports set as com1-3, using the most "standard" addresses, as before. Using themodem for port 1 on com1, as one Rybbs node, and an INTERNAL modem on com4 as the other Rybbs node, using external protocols, and setting the DSZPORT environment variable in each window, it works. As before, it DOES NOT WORK using more than one external modem on the board, regardless of port addressing, regardless of what is put into startup.x (COM#, BASEADDR,IRQx), i.e., I must use one internal modem and one external. My hunch is it might also work if I add another internal modem, since it worked before with 2 internals and it works for Herb with 4 internals. BTW, I have verified that it works for me for both regular file transfers AND qwk file transfers. You had said you couldn't make the qwk transfers work onn more than one node. Additionally, I am using only the regular COM# statement in each startup.x file, no BASEADDR, or IRQ. I'm past solving this any further. I have already installed one PcBoard node and plan on adding PcBoard nodes to expand. I'm just happy I can now run 2 Ry nodes again instead of one. Now I need to figure out how to get the same echomail into both the PcBoard and Ry systems and back out again! JH>Hello Bill, Hello, Jim JH> Well I finally got file transfers to work on more than one node. JH>I think it may be that only one node can be on a multi-port board. File transfers on more than one node have never been a problem here, as long as long as RY is prevented from passing port info to DSZ, provided that: External protocols are used, and the DSZ command lines do not include any port info in the extup/extdown files. The port info is passed to DSZ by seting the DSZPORT environment variable in each window. However, QWK file transfers do not work in any non standard window because Ry will not pass to DSZ the correct port info. A VERY simple test can confirm this on ANY Ry system using a standard comport above COM1 by removing the COMn parameter from startup.bbs and using the appropriate baseaddr and irq for that standard comport. There's two modems here, using port 02F8,irq3 for com2 (standard) and port 03E8, irq2 for com3. If I run Ry on the com2 modem with COM2 in startup.bbs, all of course is well. If I simply remove com2 and replace it with baseaddr 02F8 IRQ 3 Ry will not run correctly. Using the com3 modem, if I put IRQ 2 COM3 in startup.bbs, Ry runs well, file transfers are ok since they are EXTERNAL. BUT QWK transfers will not work because Ry passes incorrect port info, specifically portx 0000,0002. Setting the DSZPORT variable does not get around this because the DSZ command line overrides the DSZPORT info. JH>The board is a 4 port board with port 4 disabled. I have the first JH>3 ports set as com1-3, using the most "standard" addresses, as I have succesfully run Ry with two ports on one card, provided I was using standard comports. I do not believe this is a hardware issue at all. JH>BTW, I have verified that it works for me for both regular file JH>transfers AND qwk file transfers. You had said you couldn't make JH>the qwk transfers work onn more than one node. Simply because I could not get Ry to pass the correct port info. If I compile a kludge DSZ.COM which removes the incorrect port info that Ry passes and runs the real DSZ.COM with the DSZPORT info, QWK file transfers work fine. In this case I use COM# and IRQ # in startup.bbs JH>Additionally, I am using only the regular COM# statement in each JH>startup.x file, no BASEADDR, or IRQ. Yup, that's the real fix, ry insists on having the com# stuff. JH>Now I need to figure out how to get the same echomail into both the JH>PcBoard and Ry systems and back out again! Well, what's used for the inbound mail for PC Board? Since I might go manynodes with that free digiboard I have I might need to do the same.
