My original plan was to run 4 Ry nodes and 2 non-Ry nodes (with 2 internal modems also) but have run into some snags. I seem to have the board configured properly and X00 installed. One disappointment is I had to disable 1 of the ports on the board in order to continue using the internal modem. I had all the addresses and IRQ's worked out but no matter what I set the internal modem to, Ry would see it as Port 1 upon startup unless it was configured to Ports 2, 3, or 4. In othere words when it was set to Com 5,6,7,8,or 0, Ry would start up that node as port 1 and there would be bleed through to the node on the real port 1. The docs say to use IRQ# and BASEADDR xxx in startup.bbs and I did, along with the COM# statement, but it still sees that node as on port 1. One thing I never noticed in the docs before last night was you could set up a local node by using COM0 in startup.bbs. I thought this was a good idea for local log ons but Ry sees this too as being on port 1 and I still get thge bleed through. Oh well, at least now I have 3 v.34 lines and the capacity for 4. I was aware that Ry could only run 4 nodes on one machine but I assumed I could run 4 bbs nodes and then maybe use 2 other nodes for dial out use for my SLIP door. Now I'm not so sure. I know at least 1 person running 4 ry ports on a single machine using this technique...again DON'T use the COM# statement at all... GR>Greg GR>--- It would not be woth it if the caller had to enter a door. The point is to expedite the callers session. As it stands now, all they have to do is download the file at the files menu or I could put a download command in any or every menu. I was hoping to prevent this if Ry could throw the file into their qwk packet. I am not asking for Ry to prepare the file for them; I will already have that made up. I jusat wanted Rybbs to copy it into the qwkstuff directory. When the caller gets their qwk packet, they MANUALLY unzip it (Pkunzip bbsname.qwk) Thhen they take that particular file out of thhe qwk packet, and do what they want with it, most likely read it or print it with their editor. I was hoping that Ry could just check for the existence BM>JH>of a file that matchs the callers name or user #, and then throwing BM>JH>it in the ..\qwkstuff directory, where it would automatically get BM>JH>packed up in his packet like everything else does. Then either when BM>Jim, what type of a file is this you want to stuff into the QWK packet? BM>I missed this exchange, looks like messages often don't get here in this BM>conference. Every night I bring in a bunch of newswire stuff and make it available for online reading or downloading. A caller can DL all of it, or, if they prefer, I have it broken down into sub-categories like, hardnews, biznews, sports, entertainment, etc. so they don't have to take the whole load(that would be easy to put in the qwk packet butr then the callers wouldnot have a choice about it, they'd HAVE to take it) There are about 25 files involved in this mix altogether. What I would like to do is make up a separate file for each individual caller who wants one, containing Only the files they are interested in. This I can do. But then I want to throw it in the qwkstuff directory ONLY when that caller logs on, so he doesn't have to go to the trouble of going to the Files Menu and doing a separate file download. Then when the caller gets his qwk packet, he manually unzips it to get the separate file out of it. Then he reads it in his editor as he does with the other files now. What it seems to me is, that this file would have a unique name, such as the callers name or user # in users.bbs, or whatever Rybbs wants it to be. Then when a caller logs on, Ry checks for the presence of a file somewhere in that name format. If one is found linked to the caller, Ry copies it into the qwkstuff directory so it gets packed with the callers qwk packet. I have found that anything you throw in there will be packed in the callers qwk packet. If you have bulletins there they will be sent regardles of whether the caller has that enabled/disabled in the Qwwk Options Menu. Anything else you put thre also is sent. So if I create a file for User #137 and call it #0137.zip, or whatever, when User #137 logs on can we get this file copied into the qwkstuff directory of the node he is logged on to, and the deleted when he exits qwk or logs off, or else deleted when the next person enters the qwk door. My callers have specifically asked for this, and I think it's a neat idea. But obviously, if they have to go through a separate step like entering a door everytime they log on, then it would just be easier for them to go to the Files menu and download it, or I could put a download option in the same menu they access qwk from. -Jim- BM>BTW, just stuffing a file into the QWK packet doesn't mean that the user BM>will be able to read it. If it's a text file, it could be copied to a BM>bulletin file and placed in the QWK directory, but the user would either BM>have to go into a door, or pass the point at which first.bat gets BM>executed. Unless there's a way to execute an external batch file while BM>going into the !logon QWK procedure.
