I'm thinking of JH> switching froom DV/x to OS/2 Warp and would like to know if JH> anyone is doing this and what to expect. Wouldn't you know it, I just loaded os/2 last weekend. Whewee what a struggle. I got some odd hardware so it was not a treat to get set up AND Rybbs will give you a few challenges. The major one is that it polls the port and keyboard all the time so it really chews up processor time. There is a program called Ostsr that runs as a tsr and will take time given up by Desqview aware programs and return it to OS/2... BUT. it doesn't work with Rybbs. Apparently the routine in the Pascal compiler that gives back tics is different than most, and Rybbs will crash instantly if ostsr is loaded. SO... you have to disable Ostsr every time that Rybbs is loaded. That's a real bummer cuz, ostsr makes many other programs seem like they're not even there.... no load on the processor at all. However, I'm up and running with Rybbs under OS/2 Warp on a 486/33 ISA bus with 8 mb Ram, both IDE and SCSI controllers, 2 internal modems and 3 CDs. It's all running and is more stable than I ever was under DV. I just wish Greg could change the DV routines (like use the Giveback object code that I use in my Basic programs maybe:) so it could take advantage of the ostsr routines. Although the system is running well, i figger another month of tweaking before it's really purring. If you decide to do it, I'll send you a list of "gotcha's" that I ran into. It gets uploaded again and again until I manually delete it. the reason I noticed is that I have some callers who are script driven and after they download their qwk packet they upload a reply, even if they don't have one and then they automatically log off. Now when they do this the previous packet is uploaded again and the callers log showed they uploaded a packet of 0 bytes but messages are posted anyway, the ones from the previous airpower.msg file which still resides in the qwk directory.
