Your patch worked. Now tell Greg what to do! JH>Thanks. JH>-Jim- OK, Jim, BTW this is being carbon copied to greg and the echo. Although I first fixed your error 103 problem by patching rybbs (rymult), the problem should be fixed by using the QWKPATH startup.bbs option. In NEW.DOC this option is mentioned and the syntax is somewhat incorrect, it says QWKPATH=path. Just like the other options the equal sign should be a space, and the path MUST have a trailing backslash (I didn't know that, dszdebug showed this). You can return to using the unpatched rymult and drop using rymult2 and the command to invoke it should be changed back to rymult. In addition, and this is to Greg, I would suggest not passing the port parameter to DSZ on the command line if the DSZPORT environment variable has been defined. Ry still adds the port n command line parameter which screws up operation when running a non standard comport. Or, pass the parameters using portx, but I think a simple check to see if DSZPORT defined andif so not passing the port is a simple enough solution. --- RyPacker v2.5a * Origin: The Right Place V.34 DS RyBBS 201-947-8231 (1:2604/539) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 256 RYBBS Ref: C5R00000 Date: 05/20/95 From: JIM HENRY Time: 05:46pm \/To: GREG RYAN (Co-Sysop)(Rcvd) (Read 5 times) Subj: Error 103 Greg after running fossil version Rymult 8.06 for a little over a week now I THINK the Error 103 problem is gone. I thought it happened once when I first put up 8.06 but I can't be sure if I reloaded Rymult after overwriting 8.05 with 8.06, so I'm going to assume it's gone now as the same users who had problems before have definitely been successful with their qwk uploads since. I am now using the QWKPATH statement now, before I did not and let it default to \$Ryqwk off of each bbs node's directory. What I still don't understand is why it used to work for me prior to 8.05, why it didn't work for me in most versions of 8.05 and why it apparently did work for most others. Was I the only one not specifying QWPATH and letting it default? Wasn't anyone else letting it default to \$ryqwk\? Is there any chance you might put together a CURRENT list of every startup.bbs command all together maybe in alphabetical order in a separate file?.. They seem to be spread through new.doc in addition to the regular docs and I really think some of the ones listed might be obsolete and no longer working. Just a suggestion. I've just upgraded my system to a 90 mhz Pentium with 1.3 gigabyte drive and now that space and speed are not a problem, I am expanding my bbs from approximately 120 echoes to about 500. As I have spent mucho time writing my new ryboards.bbs file lately, it occurred to me that it sure would be nice if someone could right a program to automate some of this. Some typical lines in my ryboards.bbs look like this: 1,5, General,c:\rybbs\boards\$gen,FILEANDRECEIPT 2,5, Airguns,c:\rybbs\boards\airgun,echo,c:\netmail\conmail\airgun 3,5, NRA NEWS,c:\rybbs\boards\NRA_NEWS 4,5, Palmtops,c:\rybbs\boards\palmtops,echo,c:\netmail\conmail\palmtops 5,5, Email,c:\rybbs\boards\email1,FILEANDRECEIPT 6,5, Paintball!,c:\rybbs\boards\paintbal,echo,c:\netmail\conmail\paintbal 8,5, Local Politics,c:\rybbs\boards\poly273,echo,c:\netmail\conmail\poly273 9,5, Hunters' Advocate,c:\rybbs\boards\hunt_adv,echo,c:\netmail\conmail\hunt_a 10,5, Paul Revere Net,c:\rybbs\boards\pr_net,echo,c:\netmail\conmail\pr_net,17 12,5/95, PR_NET News,c:\rybbs\boards\prn_news,echo,c:\netmail\conmail\prn_news 14,5, Cops,NRA,& RKBA,c:\rybbs\boards\NRA_COPS,echo,c:\netmail\conmail\NRA_COP 20,5, 12_STEPS,c:\rybbs\boards\12_steps,echo,c:\netmail\conmail\12_STEPS 22,5, 60S_70S_PROGROCK,c:\rybbs\boards\60s_70s,echo,c:\netmail\conmail\60s_70s 24,5, ABLED The lines are actually longer than you can see here, at least for the non-zone one echoes, so you can see how time consuming this is. And of course then when I'm all done I have to write new Rypacker config files and a Squish.cfg too, for all these echoes. Sure would be nice if one could just enter some basic path info, your z:net/node address for non zone 1 echoes, and either type in or read in the Area names, and have it generate a Ryboards.bbs and a Rypacker.cfg, or at least the heart of it. You made the improvement I asked for in putting the users name in the chat line instead of just the node number and that seeems to work well, thanks. The other problem I mentioned still exists though. That is when one user pages the other user on the other node. It doesn't work. There is no way that I can find for one caller to get the other caller's attention. I forget the menu command name right now but it doesn't page them, it only puts you in chat mode. Now if both callers should arrange to log on and go into chat mode at the same time, chat does indeed work, it's just that there's no way to signal another caller to go into chat.
