How about some friends who are raising a 9 year old son as live aboards cruising the world on a 40' ocean going cat? ;-/ It feels like the cockpit is turned sideways, and the rotating mast and running backstays only make for some awkward problems tacking and aiming a masthead tri-color running light. The owner retired as an engineer in his 30's to cruise, and has since become a yacht dealer specializing in cats. I like seeing running rigging and hardware layed out by an engineer much better than by manufacturing accountants. It's strange seeing a boat that size that can go upwind faster than wind speed, and cruise at 14 knots under some conditions. Perhaps that's why we played games with America's Cup rules a couple races ago using a large cat? Terry --- Maximus 2.01wb * Origin: Terry's Tavern! Unfortunately, I did a bit of research on the boat. Turns out that it's not as well constructed as I would prefer. Unless I'm wrong, it's been laid up with a chopper gun. As such, the hull isn't as strong nor as uniform as it should be. The boat looks nice. It's a San Juan 28. Plenty of room down below. However, I'm not sure if it will take the abuse I'd like to give it while cruising it, let alone racing it hard. If I'm mistaken on the construction, please let me know. ...
