Perfect weather for a sail. GD> I must agree. Those guys down south don't know what they miss. GD> Besides, they probably catch things in their winches.... :) Is that anything like catching a wench? DC> Oh yeah!! The reason we were really out there: The wind at DC> the start was at 20+ mph and gusting to at least 30! GD> I must be getting old, I like flat boats. :) I must admit, I was a bit scared. Bob hasn't sailed for all that long and I would have been far more comfortable with Mike at the helm. DC> the tacks and we had to do it again. Having figured out the DC> system, that one finally was done properly. GD> That reminds me, we better practice a little reefing sometime GD> soon.... Definitely a good idea. Even if your crew are experienced sailors, each boat is different. It's important that they know how your boat may vary even compared to a sister ship that they may have sailed before. And, it's a lot easier than trying to explain it before hand than when it's really necessary to do. I was taught how to do that the second time I sailed with Mike. It was a couple of years later that we had to do it in a pre-start. It came off quite well. However, we always went over the routine anytime we expected heavy winds in the interim. GD> If you don't have polypropylene, get it. I always wear mine with a GD> sweat suit and raingear and I'm quite comfortable. I'm going to have to make a trip to Seattle or do some mail-order shopping, as there isn't much available locally. Either that or start up my own chandlery! ... You know how AH> helpless I am without my computer! :^( GD> Right! Got your car fixed yet? :) ----- My car is not worth the repair bill and so it's off the road. I was out looking at new cars but haven't yet decided which one to get. Looked at Saturns yesterday, will do Toyotas tomorrow, then comes the used car scene which opens up an entirely different world. A used Mercedes or BMW would do me well, but there wouldn't be any warranty and repair bills can be outrageous for those. Maybe I'll make an offer on your car! :^) One thing I do know is that it's a major pain in the ass being without transportation. It really makes car shopping tough - not to mention all the sailing I miss!! I haven't been on a boat since we swung your compass! I've got all these new toys I want to try out, but can't quite see myself bussing it over to the boat with all my gear in hand.
