Saturday November 23 1996, Augustin Henriques writes to Jackson Harding: AH> Season's Greetings Jackson, Likewise. AH> -+--+--+--+--+--+--+--+-- AH> I'd like to get this straight. Does the 12s mean 12 secs of darkness AH> after the flashes, or does it mean groups of three flashes repeating for a AH> 12 sec duration? BTW, you forgot the (U) which means "unwatched" :^) It means the whole period of the light is twelve seconds. Flash - Pause - Flash - Pause - Flash - Long Pause, all in the 12 s. There is a set time interval for what constitutes a flash, a quick flash, a very quick flash and an ultra quick flash (the last is exceedingly rare) and a long flash. From memory a standard flash is approx 1 second, as is a standard pause, so this cycle should be: on 1 second, off 1 second, on 1 second, off 1 second, on 1 second, off 7 seconds. As for the "U", oops :-) I'm also cheesed off I missed Al for alternating, I certainly do know that one, usually you get something like Al WG or Al WR, which gives it away (Alternating White - Green and White - Red). The former is usually an aeronautical beacon at an airport that is visible from seeward.
