Thursday August 29 1996, Richard Wheet writes to Jackson Harding: >> They can maintain it till their blue in the face, everyone who knows the >> rules is aware of it but it still does nothing for your popularity >> amongst your peers. RW> I was taught that in sailboat racing, the rules are to be followed.... t RW> is a self-policing document.... and if one is aware they are violating a RW> rule, then it defeats the entire concept.... if your peers look down on RW> you for following the same rules they have agreed to abide by, it may be RW> time to find a club which respects the rules.... I have yet to find a club anywhere where protesting against other competitors who do not protest against each other at club level is seen as aything other than churlish. At state, national and international championships, yes I've seen it done, I've even done it myself at the national level. Then again we all know that Americans went to any lengths, in or out of the rules, to keep the America's Cup. My little >car-top Mistrel 15 has a challenge with the water of north lake >Simcoe. :) Hey Martin ... Wanna race ? We could do a overnighter you on your Mistrel and me in my CS :-) Actually sailing a boat that size is GREAT fun you really get a good sail in a very light breeze. MC>We *flew* to Jolly Harbour, Antigue, last winter. Stayed at a Villa in >Jolly Harbour right next to Club Antigue. The Villas were all on the >water so you could have your boat right beside you. MC>CS40? Sounds like a nice big boat. Where in Toronto are you? How does >the cost of keeping, a boat that size compare to owning a cottage? I >hear it's quite expensive. Well, I live in the west end of the City and Toy Box is less than 10 minutes away from my place and about 25 minutes or less away from the office. I keep her at MCC. The cost of the boat is about the same as a cottage, the upkeep is not a big deal. I have belonged to my Club since 1981 so the cost now is minamal .. Club dues, dock, haulout, and launch about 2000 a year. That's not bad considering it's in Toronto and close to everything. Lake Ontario is a super lake to sail. And ... I am on Toy Box every weekend but one from May to mid-October. MC>I just spent a week sailing North Simcoe. No matter what we sail, we >both love a fair wind and good water. Just got back from three glorious weeks in the 1000 Islands in a two week span we spent only one night at a dock. I have been made an offer by some friends to stay with them in new zealand. I would be there for a year to work on their sheep ranch and to fix things up. As of now, Ihave considered many ways to get to new zealand from my home in california. One of the most appealing would be sailing to New Zealand on an oil tanker or some sort of freighter that runs from a california port. If anyone out there knows of such a ship please e-mail me. thank you very very much, tim esau --- QScan/PCB v1.17b / 01-0154 * Origin: MicroLink BBS * Dinuba, CA 209-591-8753 (1:214/80) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 254 SAILING Ref: DDG00001 Date: 09/11/96 From: GENO DELLAMATTIA Time: 06:34am \/To: ALL (Read 2 times) Subj: Martec Props I've found a used Martec folding prop and am looking for opinions.
