They do, however, seem to give a lot of boat for the money. But, in the US, I am told, they do not keep their value too well as they have a reputation, perhaps not deserved, of being built, until recently at least, not too strongly. When I was shopping for my boat on the US eastern seaboard, brokers didn't seem to like them too much. One told me: "The Cadillac of boats is the Sabre. The Catlina is your Chevrolet. And the Hunter? Well, let's say it is your Yugo." His opinion, not necessariy mine, which is that I don't much like their latest designs where the lines appear to go every which way, giving rise to a total lack of harmony. * S2S Toronto, Ontario (416) 975-1547 --- WM v3.11/93-0359 * Origin: Ship to Shore, Vancouver,BC [604]540-9596 (1:153/7064.0) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 254 SAILING Ref: CGQ00000 Date: 12/03/95 From: DAVE MCCONNELL Time: 05:27pm \/To: JIM TOWGOOD (Read 5 times) Subj: Re: Cs 36 propane JT>Has anyone tried to enlarge the propane storage lockers on the CS 36 JT>to accomodate larger tanks? The patch is not accessable -> from the inside without doing major surgery. Dan: I guess the patch on the outside will be the only way to go. A couple of years ago I met an old neighbour, he damaged the bow on his cruiser and wanted to know if I knew someone to patch it up. I didn't want to get involved with it myself. I think there was some serious fixing to be done. I maynot not be able to do a GOOD job on fiberglass but at least it would look respectable. I would imagine one of these days I will have some patching work to do. I have come pretty close a couple of times, the outboard stalled while docking and I brushed the dock. -> GS> fuel although a varsol deriative is possible. More than likely -> GS>some sort of acetone chemical cleaner. -> If you read the label, you will probably see that it contains -> petroleum distillates. The more that you can smell them, the -> tougher the wax will be on your finish. They do have their purpose, -> however. They can make a bad finish look good, at least a while. Dan, you are talking to someone who doesn't even like to wax the car, so for me waxing a boat will be once a year! I think acetone is a petroleum based chemical, just refined differently. A really good cleaner but you have to work fast with it! Just think another three months and it will be time to start undressing (tarp) the boat. I hope we have an early spring. In fact, there are moves at the moment Lee: I ended up using the motor for extended periods last year a couple of times and fuel economy was great, I still had a half-tank out of 3.5 imp. gallons. -> I found Honda service to be quite excellent when I had my 7.5, not -> that I really needed it except as a reult of someone's error when I -> first got the engine. But may be things have changed in the last few -> years although I suspect it depends on your local dealer. I would Servicing maybe good, but so far parts have been difficult to obtain, at least around Toronto. I contacted two companies both Honda dealers and the parts I wanted where both one-out-of three. I don't think they were unusual (fuel filter, service manual, and the transom screw handle), maybe I will have some luck finding a dealer at the boat show! -> four-cycle motors are a fair bit heavier than the two-cycle types. -> That's a consideration if someone else on the boat isn't as tall or -> hasn't as much muscle power when it comes to raising it out ofthe -> water or lifting it off the boat. I have noticed the weight difference, mind you I have the long shaft model that does add a couple of extra pounds. I replaced the Fulton adjustable mount because it was worn and dropped to the lowest position at awkward times. The springs on the mount make it bearable. I do like the Honda but if I could find a good dealer who stocks Honda parts, I would enjoy the motor a lot more. I figure there's got to be a way of finding out what a boat is *really* like. I've heard pretty much the same things you have, but would like to verify the rumours one way or another... obviously, there's no point in asking a Hunter dealer nor his competition! It seems that Hunters are great boats, but only for the first few years. OTOH, I have seen some smaller, older Hunters (1986) which still seem to be pretty solid. Maybe what I ought to do is talk to a few surveyors who know about these boats... but who would know about the newer ones (ca. 1992)?
