Big enough to sleep *aboard? A friend here has a 15 foot cat rigged sailboat that he built *himself. It has ballast and centreboard and is much more stable in *gusty conditions that my (unballasted) Siren. The Peep Hen has two berths. One is 6'4" the other is a little shorter but not much. She has a keel the is 6" deep and 16" wide and filled with concrete. She draws about 9" with the board up and 3' with the board down. I wouldn't do any major ocean crossings but I go out to Block Island which is off the coast of Rhode Island by about 13 miles. I pick the perfect day though. MC*Only on skates and only in the 8 km section in Ottawa. That must have been fun. There must be some sort of reverse status symbol involved in sailing a "Peep Hen"... My only "status" comes when after bobbing around in gusty winds and rough waters, and being passed by all of the 24 to 44 footers, we get into shallow anchorages and I put up my centreboard and thread my way up to the shore in 8" of water.... Of course, by then the 30 footers have lowered their ship-to-shore boats (some of which aren't much smaller than my Siren) and have motored to shore too.... ah well Happy sailing..
