It amazes me to see people going out to the lake without any clue that what they are about to do is potentially deadly. They just hop in the boat and ZOOOOM, off they go. That is unless they do something stupid before that point. --- FMail/386 1.20 * Origin: Hawk's Haven! Garland, Tx. Much less have the necessary Registration and safety inspections. They should not allow those guys on the water if they have never gone through the Coast Guards Course. If they were only allowed to do what is leagal and safe and sane they wouldn't like the Wave Riders. How TM>would I know if a different 4-blade would work better without spending 300 TM>to find out? The OMC 4 blade props have a better balance to them but the main feature of the 4 blade prop is "Added Thrust". If your boat hangs bow high for awhile, even after trimming in with PTT, before hitting a plane... the 4 blade prop would be of use to you. If, on the other hand, your boat goes up to a plane position quickly, hits top RPM at full throttle... and you have no operating complaints, stick with the 3 blade. Pertaining to RPM, for example... if your engine top RPM listing is say 6000 RPM, and at full throttle your tachometer reads 5800 RPM. That's a good match. DO NOT exceed the top RPM listing or you'll eventually have a blown engine. A axample of what a 4 blade prop will do in terms of thrust is: Back in the early 1960s, before the days of efficent high hp engines, most of the commercial fishermen used a 40hp outboard engine, and their boat 9 times out of 10 was in the 21' class. When using the 3 blade prop, the boat acted like a 40 footer.... sluggish, slow, and it took a excessive amount of time to get from one place to another. Changing over to a 4 blade prop made the boat act like a second engine was installed! Hope this info is of some use to you. I recall back in the 1920's and 1930' that boats were much smaller and the outboards were all small. For instance, when I was 4 years old, back around 1931 I had a 16" Garwood unsinkable canoe (Cork Gunwales) with a square stern. There was a 4 HP Johnson "Kicker" on the back end of it. A Short Rope, with a handle was used to wrap around the groove in the Flywheel and you pulled the rope to start it. I drove that wonderful fishing rig all over Lake Medina, in South Central Texas. I used to come back to our Marina with a Stringer full of fish. Sure, it took a short while to get anywhere but it was safe and sane and I didn't almost founder all of the other boats on the lake when I went by. I still have some of the Dry Flies I used to use on the Split Bamboo Fly Rod.
