I have never done this JK> before. What does the e4 mean? My thanks to Lawrence Garvin for sending you Bruce Moon's description of algebraic notation. In my msg I intended to show my King's Pawn moving 2 spaces - from e2 to e4. As we go forward with our games feel free to ask for clarification of any/all moves if you're not sure of my intentions. I'll do the same with you. JK> if you want to play I would like you to go on at least once JK> a day(if possible)otherwise it just take too long. FIDONET won't let us move that fast; it generally takes two days to transmit our msgs to each other even if we answer the day we receive them, and from time to time the system loses msgs. But just because the games take awhile shouldn't detract from their enjoyment. Jim ... Send me your 1st move and I'll see what happens. Please be patient for the first little while, I am new at this. Also like I said before try and go on at least once a day at some time so this game doesn't go on until next fall. I don't want to be playing through the whole summer. If your ever planning to play in Canada or in Saskatchewan its a good to check this sight out and keep informed of coming avents. http://nic.net4u.nl/ New in Chess is one of my favorite sights and which I have made it a point to bookmark because of the many different links that it has and the quality of the sight. I like this one alot. You can find links to everywhere here. It looks graphiclly nice. http://sunifa3.ifsi.fra.cnr.it/scacchi.html This is an Italien E-Mail Chess Club which is new on the scene.........they have thematics, Championships, Friendly games, you name it. Scacchi is the most friendly I have ever played in and my opinion currently this is one of the best Internet E-Mail Chess Clubs out there right now. Its Chess officals are always polite to the Players and never insult them or scream at them in any of there e-mail correspondence or are biased and unfair in there Chess rulings........... And if you have any questions you know where to go or ask or feel that nobody will chop your head or your hand off. They are of course strict about there rules with timing as in any CC Club- but they always treat all Members with respect and courtesy which is why I can recomend this club to beginners Intermediates and strong players over the bigger ones like IECG and IECC. Another thing I must mention to you is the quality of Opponents is par excellence Players are rated from 1200 to about 2500 Elo Fide as well the reliabuility of Opponents who are Members of Scacchi reply on a timely basis is another factor for joining. Membership is free and there are no fees to play in any of the Tournaments like IECG and IECC. In order to become a Member of the Club you have to send Internet E-Mail to the Chess Secretary and fill out a form stating your experince, elo rating (E-Mail, OTB ect) read the Faqs rules ect what Country you live ect. Then you mail off and in about a day or so you get a reply and you can join tournaments. http://www.accelnet.com/NOST Knights of the Square table is another Club with Par Exellence E-mail Opponents. Like Scacchi the atmosphere is very good here. They have been organizing cc Tournaments since 1960 Quality Tournaments and Quality officating. When you join this U.S. Club you get the real deal. The first six Months Membership is free then there is a small fee to pay but its well worth it. From the sight you can send e-mail to the Chess Secretary view news ect............... To request the Membership Application form by E-Mail or information from the Secretary. http://www.sportsite.com/chess/ Theres lots and lots of E-Mail Chess Opponents. There are even well known Grandmasters/Masters who frequent this sight but as everyone uses an alias here, watch out whos toes you step on or challenge you could end up being crushed by a 2200 rated player! This is like a City Park where you can pick up a Chess game with just about anyone and get hussled or creamed. You wont lose any money but you definatley will feel smaller afterwords. Beware that Playing on this sight has more risks than playing in a chess e-mail club, some Players are not shy about swearing at there Opponents or becoming nasty or rude. http://www.gambitsoft.com/ Lots of Chess Software Freeware, shareware here. Looking for Chess base utilities you can find various links to sights which support rebel software, chess assistant ect. http://www.cs.ualberta.ca/~mah/ACA/ The Home Page of the Alberta Chess Association, top notch page good links to Canadien, U.S. sights. http://www.cs.ualberta.ca/~games/TheTurk/TheTurkClient.cgi The Turk a Computer Program hooked up at the University of Alberta, if late at night you want to play a computer and not a Human Opponents its worth stopping by, the Turk they say beats about 80% of non-2000 rated players. This is not deep blue but it is a great chess Opponent. I would say that Playing the Turk is excellent practice because you cant take back a move if you make a mistake and thus if your new at Tournament chess it prepares you for touch move. Note: If you stop a game and have not made your moves in two days they erase your game. http://www.gams.at/~saj/chess/ Yobes Chess Engine if your looking for something specific on the web this is a good search engine to use. http://drseuss.lib.uidaho.edu/ I often use the Search Engines at the University of Idah and other ones to find various links to Chess on the net, I often find that some of the University search engines can find new links better than Yahoo or Excite. I am always intrested in finding new E-Mail Chess Clubs+ New Chess Magazines in Europe/Eastern Europe and in Australia because usaully from the low Key Chess Clubs advertise New Chess Tournaments! Sometimes you find new stuff but you have to know where to look and not all search engines will find what your looking for but once you find a search engine which leads the way to the pot of Gold at the other side of the Rainbow book mark it! On http://www.ccn.cs.dal.ca/Recreation/NSChess/nschess.html Home Page of the Nova Scotia Chess Federation........Great sight In order to play in Tournaments in Nova Scotia (Province in the Maritimes) you have to be a Member of the Canadien Chess Federation. http://www.chessmaster.com/ If you have Chess Master 5000 you can play online via the Internet. You have to download chessmaster online at there sight and then dial up your Internet Service Provider via the Software. I dont like the Net software it should easily integrate with netscape or Microsoft Internet Explorer but it doesnt seem to.........but other than that I like the sight. Http://www.gamemaster.qc.ca This BBS is not free but you can log in via telnet: Gamemaster.qc.ca Prices vary, depending on what your willing to pay (Eg note credit cards and Money order/Checks Accepted here) When your a Member you can play Chess via there doors live. No software to install the graphics in there door is primitive but you can still play chess with your friends online or with the local Players. Theres about 40 to 60 lines. I no longer call this one because I couldnt afford the Prices but I can say that some of the toughest Chess players in the Province of Quebec hang out on this System. When your a Member you get Internet E-mail IRC Chat ect. If you know of any Great Chess sights or links --- Maximus/2 3.01 * Origin: Juxtaposition BBS. They might have these It was at the Impar in France. They had computerized diagrams during all the French commentary so you could see the Positions of the Games so you can follow it on your own board- (even those who dont speak french can follow) Next time they should show all the games not just two matches. Im going to look for the tapes to get the exact year of the match..... --- Maximus/2 3.01 * Origin: Juxtaposition BBS.
