D becomes C because MSDOS (and most other OS's) ignore partitions of unknown type. Under MSDOS, C,E,F are unknown and are ignored. The first drive on your system that is compatible with MSDOS is assigned the name C: You can boot from A: or your DOS on your FAT partition and install Win95 on C: quite safely. Win95 ignores all the other partitions. It might, however, give you a warning about BootManager. This is fine - Win95 disables BootManager during the install. Keep a disk with FDISK on it handy. When Win95 is installed, use FDISK to change the active partition to the one with BootManager on it and BM will be re-enabled. Regards, - SoNiC [ Scott Little (aka. Hi Jonathan, The VMM inside a VDM is not the reason I suggested 32MB. I suggested this value because all DOS/4GW programs that will run under real mode DOS [switched to DPMI] will also run in a VDM provided DPMI_DOS_API is ENABLED and DPMI_MEMORY_LIMIT is 32 or more -- unless they do something else that causes them to crash. John's genealogy program appears to be doing the latter, i.e. something else that is causing it to crash. Regards Dave * KWQ/2 1.2i * Sure, when... OINK FLAP, OINK FLAP... If so, then Boot Manager was on a primary partition that controlled the boot process. I am sure that after Windows 95 tried to trash your C: setup that you had to go back with OS/2's FDISK and set things back to right. I have to second this. It didn't take me long at all to register the SIO drivers, certainly much less than the evaluation period. SIO's VX00 gets installed in my PPoint session parameters. I haven't had a bit of problem with it set up this way. OTOH, BNU could possibly be made to work. You would have to read the docs for BNU to find out how to set the com port for the correct IRQ. You would then have to enter these parameters in the mailer.bat file, which controls loading/unloading of the fossil when PPoint launches Binkley Term. The utility you probably need most since you are talking of non-standard ports is BNUPORTS, which comes in the BNU package (at least, at the 1.70 level it does). I don't have to use it, so I can't vouch for it working or not. You could also try X00, which does support different port parameters and port mapping if I remember correctly. Still though, I think the SIO drivers are the better solution overall. They will probably help with any Internet connections you should care to make as well. The only downside is that the automatic registration tool (the dancing elephant) doesn't get along with the SIO drivers. TTYL, Stephen Team OS/2, Team GEOS OS/2 & Geoworks Ensemble - What a combo!
