JA> Anyhow, is Quake sound susposed to work and, if so, is there a trick? Quake won't work with sound over here unless my dos drivers are loaded. Open dos session, insert the dos install disk for the card, and run it. Close the session, open it back up (wasn't that easier than a reboot? ), and run quake. The drivers will load on each dos session now, so if this is annoying, copy autoexec.bat to sndexec.bat or something, and copy the backup of your utoexec back to autoexec.bat. Then you can specify which gets loaded for each session in it's properties. Also in session properties, you'll see dos_device, and ou can REM or delete the sound devices if you don't want them to run in a session. Don't forget though, os/2 gives out the sound card on a first come, first serve basis, so make sure it's free by not running anything else that wants it before you load quake. -=> In the immortal words of Homer Simpson... D card here, and this error message is usually caused by not having the SB portion of the card enabled. (Unfortuantely, Quake won't use the PAS half of the card, only the SB half) JA> Anyhow, is Quake sound susposed to work and, if so, is there a trick? You need to enable the SB portion of your card. Go into your CONFIG.SYS, and look for a line "DEVICE=x:\path\MVPRODD.SYS" There should be some parameters after it, such as "Q:10 B:388", etc, etc. Make sure you add "S:1,220,7,1". (You can change the IRQ or Address if you need to. It works the same way as your DOS drivers. Check your PAS manual). Set the BLASTER environment variable to the same, thing, and away you go... I also found that for some games (not Quake, but some others) you need the DOS driver MVSOUND.SYS loaded in your DOS session. As long as you use the same options for MVSOUND.SYS as you do for MVPRODD.SYS, you can add MVSOUND.SYS to your Config.Sys or to the DOS_DEVICE settings for the DOS session, and it should fix the problems with those games... I use LapLink Ver. 5 with a parallel connection with 0 problems, get consistant 3 meg/min thruput, never get a hang. Ver 4 had a few minor problems but also worked OK, but they were LL problems, not OS/2 problems. I never used a serial connection, don't see why a serial connection wouldn't work. Ver 2.01 of LL probably had lots of problems with any multitasking system.
