Since I have various games of this type, I use a special "DOS 3-D Games" session which I start from the OS/2 WPS. It gives me a menu I can choose a game from. Since diskspace is limited, all games are kept in a RAR archive and unpacked when called for. After the game, the game is repacked (updated) into the RAR archive. It works wonderfully. I got Quake to run under OS/2 with full sound, so it can be done (I used some suggested settings that I read in this echo). Duke3D wouldn't run with the settings I tried, but I've had several responses in this echo with suggested settings for Duke3D. I also get full sound with Doom 1, but I'm using the (ancient) v1.1 executable which was released prior to when iD screwed up the sound routines. Doom 2 runs okay, but since it uses a Doom engine after 1.1, sound doesn't work. Whatever happened to the much-rumored vaporware Doom for OS/2? I've messed with a couple betas, the latter one worked pretty well. It was supposed to be out by Christmas of 94 right after Warp was released and there was a LOT of talk about in early in 95, but it's 96 now and just about all talk has ceased. Guess DOS games like Quake & Duke3D have made Doom/2 obsolete. ...
