Support @ WWW esoft.com I think. I don't surf, have an ISP, ect. eSoft has a small list of telenetable BBS, and sites using it. Those in turn have a larger lists. These sites host several International Web Chat sessions. Basically, you can't get to far past eSofts firewall, and whats behind it didn't impress me. So what you see is limited, and not impressive. Its the other sites that people say is impressive. But I have no personal experiance in connecting to them for other than mail, FREQ files, ect. No DEMO, its' commercial. Allways has been comercial for 20 years. Thats why so few of you in this area seem to have any knowlege of it I guess. Its allways writen up about every 2 years in PC Mag, and others. eSoft co-sponsered One BBS Con, now One ISP Con. All Ver 1.* was CP/M, all Ver 2.* (all 4 were writen for DOS 1984-1995). One OS session is limited to 96 lines (LAN connection counts as a line). Supports 115.2K ISDN speeds without fossils. Basically its a point and shoot Modem/LAN/ISDN per line set up, if you use one of the listed devices. DigiBoard set up is all covered in the basic manual (not in book version). FYI: Works with Binkley compatible mailers, and QMail compatible tossers. Uses fake net for point net support, but can use Pointnet address on the mailer. Some run it on DOS, Win31, Win95, WinNT, Linux, TSX, UNIX, and me, on OS/2 since OS/2 1.2. in late 91 I believe.. It can run on a TCP/IP, IPX, SPX, OS/2 Boot System (as what happens here) or the current versions 2.3 circa 1995 has its internal TIPX, an IPX clone to link other boxes. This is what many of the past and current Fido Star Hubs use, and do. It has internal cache support for CD-ROM, or allows 3rd part cache. eSoft has a IPAD (Internet Protocol Attatchemnt Device, and another company offers TSX as the Internet Server. MindWire a third offering from a 3rd company with a 3rd comercial Web, ISP option. Others use Linex, or UNIX over Ethernet. As I'm not interested in the Internet Server option, I know basicaly nothing about these many options. The previous version, that comes with that book, comes with no internal IPX/TIPX and is sold in book version for about $30.00 US, or $55 Canadian. The book version is the cheapest way to examin it, if you can't find a local sysop to show you the package. Looking at the book: ISBN 0-201-62668-3 $39.95 US, $51.95 Canadian. Creating Sucessful Bulletein Board Systems - Alan D. Bryant Addison-Wesley Publishing Company Sorry, I didn't pay as high as the $30.00 US, but after mail order shipping costs was added, it was close to $30.00 US. Historically, TBBS only gets upgraded about every 4 years at about $25 US for the lowest line count (currently at 4 lines, plus sysop = 5 users at one time). The Book version costs $75 to upgrade to the current 4 line versions. TBBS is reported to be Y2K compliant, but may have some cosmetic Y2K roblems. TBBS allows intenal cost recovery tracking, expiry dates, and such. This is reported as being Y2K compliant by eSoft. Its not perfect. It takes very little CPU or drive cycles for muti lines, and just keeps on ticking.. From reading the various OS/2 support areas, and /2 software areas, I've gained more respect for TBBS. I've been away from my system(s) (now only one) several times for months and on occasion over a year in the past. TBBS just keeps on ticking. But I want more, for less, and I want it without a massive learning curve, or a massive harware upgrade. --- FLAME v1.1 * Origin: 416 604-1221, free dialup access to e-Mail (1:2424/242)
