OS/2 2.1 is a good and stable system. You can apply a servicepack to make it 2.11 but it is not neccessary. But what LAN-Software do you want to use? I used IBMs LAN Server 3.0 for a while (but - shame on me - it was an illegal copy so I don't have it anymore) and was happy with it, even with a 386DX40 with only 8 megs of memory. Later I changed to Warp Connect and had to upgrade the machine to 16 megs. It is running now with 20 megs and a 486DX40 but no onger for me but the new sysop of "my" BBS. Oh I'm talking too much... In short: If you have a LAN software for OS/2 2.1 there is no reason not to use it. If you don't, buying Warp 4 is probably the cheapest way to get it. Does anyone know of a means to lower the priority of Squish 1.11 (OS/2 ver) while it is running as a background task? It really loads down the system while tossing large packets. I run Binkley 2.60 for OS/2, Maximus 3.01 for OS/1, Allfix for OS/2, Squish 1.11 for OS/2 and would like to make the filebse builder under Maximus and the Squish tossing a little less cpu draining if at all possible. If I have two users online and mail/files are being handled in the background, then the users see a severe drag, and it gets really bad when they run a couple of the worse DOS doors. Any tips appreciated. I have messed around with these problems for 2 years now and with OS/2 for a bit longer, but I learn something new everytime I ask one of these questions . I recently tried to set up a new BBS, using Watergate, BinkleyTerm and Maximus. I'd tested Watergate on another BBS, using JAM messagebases with RemoteAccess, and it seemed to work OK. But RemoteAccess is no longer being developed, and so it seemed that the bugs in it would stay, so I thought I would try Maximus for OS/2. But Watergate seems to barf on Squish message bases, apparently because they have bugs in them. Does anyone know of any OS/2 BBS program that works with JAM message bases?
