I have never suggested anyone change to *.msg, in fact, I'd recommend anyone carring 1000 echo's use a database format. So far, the only thing that interests me in the adept format is how it can be accessed with REXX to do the things I do now with a msg format. My OFL will not work with it, and I doubt Silver Express will work with it, which most of my users use, and none of my home grown software will work with it, so "coming out of the dark ages" seems more like moving into the dark ages to me, with few benefits, other than a marginal savings in diskspace. Whats a meg or 2 of diskspace in this world of 65 meg applications? I saved about 40 megs of diskspace when I moved my msg base from FAT to HPFS, THAT was nice. I'd save 1.6 megs max if I moved to a format that wasted zero space... no big deal. Hmmm... this is really wierd... I never saw that message from Marv.... Oh well... Marv, if you're reading... cutting my nose off? I hardly think so... why would I want to use the Adept mailer when I can run either McMail or T-Mail? I've installed and used (briefly or otherwise) every mailer there is... I *highly* doubt that the Adept mailer is as functional as McMail or T-Mail, so why would I want to use a lesser program? And considering I'm a beta site for WaterGate, why would I want to use GateKeeper to toss my mail instead? I wouldn't make a very good beta site if I couldn't run the program... As for old technology? How do you figure? The adept msg base is *new* technology? It's a new standard? Hardly... talk about proprietary... What supports it? Adept and GoldED... gee... there's a lot to make me change. And as for the file tosser, there is no doubt in my mind that it pales (and would probably faint as well) in comparison to AllFix/2, which I also beta test.. Answer me this... if Adept is so great, why is it so proprietary? Why would you want to *force* someone into using a whole suite of programs when they may only want to use the one? And when each component of that suite (save perhaps the BBS itself) is inferior to other *standard* products available, why switch to the lesser software? Now, if Adept provided hooks for external mailers, tossers, and file tossers... really, not even. If it provided hooks for an external mailer and supported *standard* message bases, not this proprietary crap (I gave up on proprietary message bases a long time ago, thank you), then it might be something worth looking at. Until then, no matter how much it might look appealing, I refuse to go in a backwards direction from where I am now. Vincent Danen (vdanen@accessweb.com) . Sysop's TechNet IC .
