Sunday March 30 1997, Matt Ion babbled to Tony Langdon: TL>> mIRC 4.72 - 16 bit version won't run under Win-OS/2. Is buggy TL>> under real Windows. -> OS/2 has many equivalents: PMIRC, GTIRC, and OpenChat, to name a few. nd -> no, they don't do all those mIRC-PROPRIETARY things like text color -> commands. OpenIRC is an excellent PM IRC client, as well as IRCII which is text mode. Both can use Unix scripts and are great programs. -> I could find innumerable examples of OS/2 applications, utilities, and just -> plain "neat stuff" for which no comparable Windows equivalent exists, oo. -> So what does that prove? Have this guy find the OS/2 Shareware BBS or other large OS/2 support sites. :) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Greg Cobb - gcobb@memphisonline.com -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- --- 2SuaveEd v.0 * Origin: Picture This... This is for internet gateway gurus. :-) I run a BBS and a mail network (Fido and QWK-based) and would like to know what people recommend as the best way to go about connecting to e-mail via gateway software. I have done this before, a few years ago, and used Jesper Brondum's UUCICO/UUGATE. I have through my ISP a shell account, a PPP account and a UUCP account with my own domain name. I've seen mention of KA9Q, Watergate, etc. Mostly I have no idea what you're talking about :-) but I presume that gateway software has improved over the years and was hoping for some advice on the best route to take. I'm currently running under OS/2 2.1 using Binkley and FastEcho (squish-style message bases). I'm considering switching to PCBoard for OS/2. Machine is a 486-33 with 16MB RAM and enough hard drive space. (NOTE: I access my PPP account on my Win95 machine because I haven't installed Warp yet.) I do use TransX (excellent program) but using the Fidonet<=>Internet gateway (p0.f494.n109.z1.fidonet.org) and I want to get a gateway going with my own domain name. I already have the domain name registered and am just trying to figure out the best approach. I prefer OS/2 software, but will use DOS software =IF= it will work with my setup. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. If you mention program names, please explain what those programs do. Thanks for your time and any advice! :-) Take care, David --- * Origin: David's Comfy Little Mailer * Rockville, Maryland USA (1:109/499) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 251 OS2 BBS Ref: E4100001 Date: 03/29/97 From: CHARLES STEPHENSON Time: 10:22pm \/To: SCOTT DRAKE (Read 0 times) Subj: Re: Echomail/ *.MSG Tosser > FastEcho/2 does do *.MSG, you need to define the "Fido/*.MSG in the storage > section of the Area Manager when adding or modifing a echo. I told it to for each echoarea I defined, but it's tossing them to Hudson still. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. I went back to make sure I had each echo area as a *.msg, it was..
