The Internde Chat was broken in some of the ALPHA ver.'s...! You went the wrong way. You went from an BETA to an ALPHA. These are written by Two different people. I would suggest at this point copying a24.exe over (the old a14). If no luck try a25. The best combo is ver. VAC4 over 107f. Thats what I run most of the time. There's also a new GateKPA} GateKPR179.zip out that fixes some stuff and adds other stuff. Even if u stay with the alpha ver., u should be running VAC4 (DLLs) BTW Steven Towers FTP suite ONLY carries a16, a23, a24, and a25! That in it's self, should tell you something.... Until that time, it appears that "shoddy coverage BB> for LOTS of systems" appears to be a more accurate slogan than BB> "quality." :( I don't know what your specific problem is...and even if I did I'd be unable to help as I've never run Maximus...but I've never seen any problems from a user's point of view with the current BWMAX door. In fact, it's ironic if that particular door has bugs, since George runs (ran?) Wild! Blue on Max/2 3.01. BB> No, as I thought I had made clear, the versions that were released BB> will not work with the "current" (at that time, and now) features of BB> the BBS package. Although I didn't specify Max/2 3.01, I didn't think BB> that omission would render my message confusing. Just a thought...are you certain you're running the latest version of the BWMAX door? The older door, designed for Maximus version 2.x, reportedly worked with limitations when used wi Max 3.x. I think the door written specifically for Maximus 3.x has already been updated at least once. BB> translation: "Don't buy something you don't like, hoping it will BB> change.") Gotcha...I thought this was the likely meaning, just wanted to be sure. BB> I'm referring to the _door_ not the _reader_, BTW, lest there be any BB> further confusion. What features of the BW/Max _door_ are disabled in BB> the evaluation version which are enabled in the registered version? Again, I'm not familiar with that particular door, and I don't have a copy handy to check the documentation. But IIRC, it's not so much a disabling as a limiting of some features...the number of users, perhaps, or the number of conferences the unregistered door can handle. With the door for PCBoard, I believe the QWK-packet feature is available only after registration...but again, this isn't a major drawback, since you can continue to use PCBoard's built-in QWK if you wish. BB> Next question: If any of the door's features are disabled in the BB> "evaluation" version, HOW are we TO "evaluate" them? Good question, Bill. You really can't evaluate a disabled feature; all you can do, I suppose, is read the echo, wait for other users to register, and see what they have to say. Or if the disabled feature isn't essential for basic operation and you know how it worked in previous versions, you can probably take a chance on it... assuming the new version is generally bug-free, and the feature *was* in previous versions. Personally, I think George is less likely to turn out buggy software than a few major retailware publishers I could name.... Walter, Team OS/2 wluffman@usit.net walter.luffman@vdim.com ...
