Having Steven Tower back hardly gives one a warm fuzzy > feeling. If you are a regular on IRC, they will give you the Alfpoos, to try and report back. And they have been pretty good about that much. Gordon Z'ski. irc(AFMOS) is working on ADEPT.EXE & about 6 .DLLs. His ver. is AdeptVAC1,2 & 3... Seems to be doing a pretty good job, solid, and stabable. S. Tower is working on his ver. 108a1 thru 108a8, the last one BlewUp on me!!!! Had to recopy 108a7 back, it was stable. Some where running a8 last night. I had a bad User.DLL and he gave me another one in minutes and that straightened the UserBase out. When tried Mail out it reset/ re-init'zed the modem. On Incomming Mail it would go into the BBS. Upon checking the CONFIG I found wrong FLAGS checked and they would not SAVE if changed....ie NO OUT! NO BBS! NO EMSI! NO Mailer! Tower was doing good up until a8. ONE guy was running it last night(ASSIE) irc SPYDER. I think I just got a bad copy. Tower Changed the USER BASE and the BASIC MENU format. They look like the EVENT FILES. Adept is much FASTER using less CPU. Towers is making changes he wanted to, but couldn't before he left it seems? Now he can do anything he wants...Grin I'm sorta supporting Tower because Gordon appears to have the biggest following. WE gotta fit in somewhere Right now they seems to be working on BUGs and Improving Adept over all. Nothing Earth shattering. I don't know IF they were Joking yesterday, BUT someone was talking about making a WINDOWs 95 ver.!?!?!? Really..! :-) > Take care! Yelk, yelk, yelk..... > ... JG> I'd like to know what is the best OS/2 BBS program to use when Well, there is of course, no one correct answer, different people have different needs. Since you seem to be a bit of a techie, I'd recommend Maximus/2. It's currently in version 3.01, and an extremely flexible package due to a propriety Pascal-like language included called MEX. Max is also the oldest and most widely used BBS for OS/2 providing it with good support and plenty of utils. Another big plus is that it's free in a non-commercial environment. Also if you're into RIP, it has great internal support (or at least so I've been told, until there's a native OS/2 RIP terminal program, I'm not using it) Of course, if I'm wrong about you being a techie, and you'd like to avoid doing to much programming, then Max is not the right choice. However, that's about it's only drawback. -!- IceEdit v1.75 [Eval] --- Maximus/2 3.01 * Origin: The Foundation - (403) 436-1345 / 437-1617 - (1:342/620) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 251 OS2 BBS Ref: DBK00006 Date: 07/13/96 From: TOMMI KOIVULA Time: 09:34am \/To: DANIEL LYNES (Read 2 times) Subj: OS/2-native External Editors? Well, I do recall reading said wish in *some* archives, but, IMO, the simple fact that an archive has a file order which wouldn't occur easily (such as alphabetically by file name or file extension) is a pretty good indication that said order was deliberate and purposeful and should therefore be respected. Virtually any BBS program (DOS, OS/2 or Windows) is a "best" BBS program for doing something. What features are you looking for in your BBS program specifically? Most OS/2 BBS programs support FidoNet, as well as CD-Roms. Some support UUCP directly, others do not. Most can use external "gateway" software to access the Internet. Most are very configurable. Some are very powerful, but fairly complex. Some are less powerful, but easier to use... What specfically are you planning to do with your BBS? If you are just planning to run a general, run-of-the-mill BBS like all of the other BBSes out there, your best bet would probably be to just start downloading BBS packages, and trying them out... Personally, I like Maximus because it comes in DOS, OS/2, and Win32 versions (_VERY_ nice if you've got Boot Manager set up. You can run your BBS from any OS you might have. :) ), and it's free of charge to noncommercial users. It's also got a great script language, and an enhanced programming language built in, which makes it very easy to customize to do virtually anything you want.
