JG> I have about 2000 albums mostly from the 60s and late 50's, mostly JG> rock, I am trying to sell. Some of what I have is really rare, but JG> I do not want to peacemeal it out, I want a buyer for everything at JG> once. Unfortunately, I haven't found anyone with the necessary JG> interest or financial capability to work with me on this. JG> Oh well, I'll keep trying... Just out of interest, how long have you been looking for a buyer? It's been my experience in dealing with other collectors, that you might have a hard time selling the entire collection in one deal - unless you can find a buyer who already knows where he can unload any stuff he doesn't want. Most collector's will not want most of the collection because they will either already have a lot of that stuff, or they are focusing on specific areas of interest only and do not want the extraneous stuff. This is just an opinion, but I suspect that you should try to sell the most collectible items individually. You will probably get close to 100% of book price or better that way. Also, you will start to pare down the collection. Then, if at some point you do manage to find a buyer for the lot, you can easily negotiate the price based on whatever the collection consists of at that time. JG> Book price on the entire collection is about 50K-60K. I would want JG> at least 40K for the entire collection. You're talking about 75-80% of book price. I may be wrong, but I honestly believe that's an unrealistic expectation for the lot. IMO, if you're lucky enough to find a buyer for the whole lot, they will want to negotiate a better deal than that. As I said, you could probably get close to 100% of book or better on smaller portions of the collection, but if someone's going to buy the whole package, I'm sure they'll want a better deal than that - probably something more along the lines of 40-50% of book - or else it simply won't be worth their effort: 1) Any serious record collector will already have some of what you are selling and/or will only be looking to acquire certain recordings. 2) Few people will want to put out that kind of money in a lump sum and do all the work in unpacking, sorting, storing, and then re-selling it, UNLESS they feel they are getting a deal and have a good chance of making a portion of their money back. Of course, if you were to find someone who is just starting to seriously collect vinyl albums and doesn't have a substantial collection yet, you may be able to get close to what you're asking. Assuming they've got the cash to spare, they might be willing to make that kind of investment, knowing that they're going to keep most of it rather than try to turn it around and sell part of it again. Admittedly these are my personal opinions though, and are based mainly on my own experiences as a collector. JG> Some of the collection consists of.... Looking at your sample listing of some of your rarities, it seems that you've probably got a few things that I'd be interested in. But I certainly can't afford to buy the whole collection - not even at 50% of book! Anyway, my needs are quite specific and I don't really want to acquire a lot of extra vinyl that isn't within my sphere of interest. Nevertheless, I'm always interested in talking about records, so if you want to chat, send me a message in the general music echo, or if it's about Beatles records, in the Beatles echo, or via netmail.
