DD> ^^^^^^^ DD> Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think FM was even invented until DD> about 1947-48. It was actually invented in 1933 by Edwin H. Armstrong who tried do develop FM on his own after being shunned by the well established AM manufacturer's--especially RCA. He created the "Yankee" FM network and licensed other firms to build FM sets in the mid '30s. The frequency he used was about 45 MHZ until RCA lobbied the FCC to change the FM band to the current 88-108 MHZ which effectively crushed Armstrong's network and made all of his radios obsolete. The would be in the early-mid '40s. I'd like to find one of Armstrong's original 45 MHZ sets. It is a furniture size radio--AM--only three knobs. My father-in-law received it used as a wedding gift 53 years ago. He gave it to me because it didn't work. I cleaned it up and plugged it in and it's been working fine. The case is a beautiful walnut vanier and looks factory new. Any help is appreciated. So how have you been and have you come across any good radios lately? I recieved a couple of novelties; a STANDING KNIGHT w letter opener as his sword, and another KNIGHT ON A HORSE! Both made in Japan and made of metal with a plastic base. Really neat. a local dealer has the GUILD TOWN CRIER but is wanting $125 for it, great condition but too much wanting for it. Just recieved Bunis,s fourth edition of "Collectors guide for Antique Radios, have you got that one yet? It is a must have! --- OLXWin 1.00b * ...................... Group Photo * Origin: MTCC BBS!
