It is a fringe benefit that doesn't impact any of the calcs for the payroll, but they would like to remind the employees of the employer contributions per pay period for this sort of thing. Any ideas? Thanks. I have not tried this, but I'd think it could easily be done. I've only tried CLASSes, but have never needed to use them for what I do. It's a lot easier to combine two or more account balances to get a total than it is to sort out and separate the transactions later, should the need arise. Moreover, the only legitimate way to determine market value of real property at any given time is to actually buy or sell it. Even an actual appraisal is only an estimate. Real property is unique, not like fungible stocks and bonds or commodities, where things being bought and sold in an established market are identical to yours and yours will bring the same market price as anyone else's. --- Via Silver Xpress V4.4P [Reg] * Origin: FOG-Line BBS - 515-964-7937 - 1:290/627 (1:290/627) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 249 QUICKEN Ref: ED400000 Date: 09/02/97 From: DON BUELTMANN Time: 11:13am \/To: BILL WHITE (Read 3 times) Subj: Setting up a home accoun Thanks again Bill, BW> Thinking more on the subject. Yes, I agree with you, and although I have not recorded my home in Quicken, I certainly have receipts for all of the improvements that I have made to it over the last 35 years. You were talking to Dick Barmann about "Backup" on Wed 3 Sep 1997 I had a problem finding my Quicken 6.0 files a while back. I called support and the tech helped me locate them. Then he had me create a Directory "Test" My backups went into this Dir. Now I have backups in Quicken and in Test. The files in "test" match my backup disc as far as name/size. Can I send them to Quicken and replace what is in Quicken? I would like to eliminate the odd directory and have it all within the Quicken directory. Thanks in advance for any help. Let's say you're paying bills for your parent out of your personal checking account. Set the parent up as a class, using your normal categories. You can then keep track of how much you've spent on their behalf by generating reports using Quicken's ability to "filter" by class. (This could be significant if there's a question of whether a dependency test has been met.) Let's say you've got wage income from more than one source. Set each up as a class and identify the income by class. You can use "filtering" to generate a report of how much you got from each. Let's say you've got a job and are self-employed. Create a class for the self-employment and get a P&L for it the same way. Attornies may have a common trust fund for client funds. Create a class for each client to keep track of how much of it belongs to each one. --- Via Silver Xpress V4.4P [Reg] * Origin: FOG-Line BBS - 515-964-7937 - 1:290/627 (1:290/627) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 249 QUICKEN Ref: EDD00000 Date: 09/07/97 From: DON BUELTMANN Time: 10:59am \/To: BRUCE WILSON (Read 3 times) Subj: Re: Setting up a home acc BW>Okay. I agree with you Bruce. It is better to operate in the real world than the subjective world. Bruce, let me ask you another question if you know. Quicken 6 allows one year of free updates to your portfolio instead of charging as it did in the past. Do you know is this one year from date of registration, or is it tied in any way to the release of the next version of Quicken?
