Good question. Somebody I know has Quicken 4 for Windows and it can share his old DOS version database. I don't know about v. 5 for Windows. I installed it on 1/1/97, but it didn't work (I think I got a bad CD) so I bought Quicken 6 for Windows. Was surprised that it altered my Quicken v8 for DOS database, making it unusable with the DOS version. Strange way of doing things. The DOS version is portable enough to put on my low end/cost "beater" laptop machine. I like Quicken Windows graphics charts, but for data entry and reports, I still prefer the DOS version. Quicken Windows version 4 will work with DOS v8.0 but I'm not sure about beyond that. They helped me find what my problem was fairly quickly. What are the symptoms when you try to D/L the update? If by chance your getting a disk write error (with some error number), check to see that your TEMP environment variable is pointing to a disk drive that has 10meg free space or more. That was the problem I was having, my TEMP variable was pointing to a ramdisk that was only 3meg and the process needed more space than that. Hope this helps, Mike ... If the data files already exist, simply copy them to what ever drive and directory you want to use. Then, use File -> Open. Quicken asks which drive and directory to look in for the files. Enter the correct location. If the data files don't exist, use File -> New to create them on what ever drive and directory you want. Quicken lists the last 4 data file locations that you opened at the bottom of the File menu. This makes it easy to open the data files the next time even if they are in different directories. (You probably can even change the .ini file to increase the number of data file locations Quicken lists there.) --- * Origin: Splitting Atom *RiverVale NJ* 201-573-9262 *HST/V34+ (1:2604/2)
