I struggled for weeks using DP> E-mail, phone, fax and snail mail to get any help from the people at DP> TurboTax. Finally I think someone on my local BBS read about my woes DP> and took pity on me and suggested some things for me to try, which DP> worked. Although I went ahead and bought TurboTax again this year, and DP> so far haven't had any problems with it, does this story sound familiar DP> to all of you? Has Intuit improved its technical support? Don't know if this will answer your question, but take it for what it's worth. I installed Quicken 5 for windows a short time ago and immediately started getting all kinds of error messages. As I learned later, the culprit was my hard disk being compressed. Altho chkdsk showed 88meg free it wasn't really usable. I stayed on hold about ten minutes when I called tech support. They suggested I reinstall windows. I deleted some deadwood from the hard disk and everything works fine now. Hope it helps... 2) Unable to Edit or Create Quicken Categories If you use Quicken 5 for Windows (or Quicken Deluxe 5 for Windows) AND the final version of QuickTax for Windows (or QuickTax Deluxe for Windows), you may experience an error while creating or editing Categories while in Quicken. This error will cause Quicken to terminate. If you were entering a transaction at that time, the data for that transaction may be lost. No other data will be affected. Again, please note that this error can only occur if you have Quicken version 5 AND QuickTax installed on your computer. Earlier versions of Quicken are not affected and the problem does not occur if you are using QuickTax for Macintosh or ImpotRapide. Furthermore, this error does not in any way affect the tax calculations in QuickTax. There is a very simple work-around to this problem which you may wish to implement yourself. Using any text editor (e.g. Windows 3.1 Notepad or your DOS Editor) locate your Quicken 5 directory (usually C:\QUICKENW) and open the file named "TAX.SCD". In this file you will find a line near the bottom of the file which appears as follows: 166 SYN Medical Expenses Simply delete the word "Expenses" so that the line reads: 166 SYN Medical If you aren't comfortable editing this file or do not have a suitable text editor, we will shortly be making available an update to your program which can be downloaded from this web site.
