Hi, it looks as if you don't keep a separate account for the same mutual fund then? If not how do you track the actual US$ value of the fund? I think you'll need two accounts for the same mutual fund. One is in US$ and uses the actual USD unit price so you know what its worth in US$, right? The cash value of this account is the cash value of your mutual fund, but in US dollars. The second is what you suggest. It uses the exchange rate as the unit price to deal with the exchange rate difference. The cash value of this account will be what your US mutual fund will be worth in Canadian dollars. That's if you use $1.385 for the unit price. You would not want to add up the cash values of both accounts together in this case because the 2nd account is the full Canadian value and the first account is the USD value. Adding the two together means you've more than doubled your mutual fund's value. It's ok if you just use the 2nd account without adding in the first. I know all this is confusing, but the bottom line is your method is great and I'll convert my accounts as I get to them. Thanks again. Ken ... The only way I could figure was to put > members on the chart I've used quickbooks for invoicing members of a civic association for dues and assessments. By memorizing invoices and setting up transaction groups for periodic posting, we are able to send invoices for specific "pledges" if you will. Try setting up a receivable account for anticipated revenues. Make an invoice for each member "customer" using a prepared transaction like "MONTHLY PLEDGE" or whatever. Run the invoices when due. You can then track who is paying at. You'll have to decide when to kill unpaid invoices, and you will need to run reports on the cash basis. Set up detail in your chart of accounts to afford tracking of kind of receipts, i.e. CONTRIBUTIONS:Pledges CONTRIBUTIONS:Love Offerings CONTRIBUTIONS:Bishop's New Car Fund etc. --- * Origin: The Holy Cloakroom - Online Ordination - (504)927-4509 (1:3800/6) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 249 QUICKEN Ref: CCJ00001 Date: 08/14/95 From: GARY SHWEID Time: 07:35pm \/To: RICHARD APPLING (Read 20 times) Subj: QuickBooks for Church... One entry on the paycheck stub represents money put into an after tax fund, which is no problem. I have created an investment account for that fund. Another entry on the paycheck stub represents company matching put into that same fund. Is there any way I can show that money going into the fund directly? If I try to put money into that account, I need to specify where it is being transferred from - and it's not being transferred from another of my accounts - it's outside money! For now, in the splits on the paycheck, I make a negative entry for the amount and assign it to the fund, and I make a positive entry and assign it to a bogus account, but this doesn't really solve the problem at all, just lets the splits add up right. The bogus account is now short the amount I transferred! Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. You might also check the file areas of the BBS that you use, they may already have the files there. Finally, check if Intuit has a home page or FTP site on Internet that you can get the upgrade from.
