They suggest that I buy a Diamond Supra for best compatibility. I guess what I am looking for is any testimonial good or bad from folks who have used the Diamond Supra 33.6 and the 56K version. I had good luck with Supra in the past but that was before Diamond acquired them. I do know that if the Diamond Modems are as good as the Diamond video cards and devices they will be great... On Rockwell chipset v.34 modems, you can diddle with S191. Lowering the number stored in that register will cause the modem to emphasize speed while increasing the number will cause the modem to place more emphasis on stability. If you lower the value, you will get higher speed but unstable connections. That is, if S191=127, decreasing it to 124 would cause a higher initial connect speed to be reported while raising it to 130 would cause a lower speed to be reported. IMHO, not a worthwhile tradeoff since throughput will suffer if S191 is moved far from it's optimum value in either direction. One friend of mine purchased a modem/fax/voice mail/printer/scanner combo for his home office. When the printer decided to have problems, he was running around frantically borrowing bits and pieces to keep himself in business until it was repaired. He's since decided that the convenience of a single telephone plug and a single AC line plug is not worth the trouble and now has a voice/fax/modem plus a printer and a scanner.
